Hi guys,in new to the 240'S but ive studied them quite a lot though.I wan to start a new project but i dont know what engine setup is best for me.See, ive heard a lot about drifting but i dont like the fact that you replace every bushing/ball joint/tie rods every couple of months.Id be using the car like 50% drag/40%track(not drift) and a couple of time a year for a bit of drift. What would you guys buy, ka-t or sr20?:help:!

hmm...that's a very good question. if you're leaning more towards drag, then KA-T would be the best route i guess. it's definitley a better engine for drag racing. but...it's not as good a track engine as the SR20. i think if you want to use the car for the track, you HAVE to expect that things will break. that's just the nature of it! SR20's can also be made into goo drag engines supposedly, but they're definitley an engine that's more suited to track racing. check out the FAQ for more info.

You my friend are sadly misguided
Drifting is extremly hard, your car will look like shit. Plan on replacing tons of crap, every OTHER month. The KA, KAT and SR are all expensive options. I suggest, you get a B20, turbo it, and get a set of JIC suspension parts for your Civic. RWD will be a bitch in the winter.

derek, seriousley...STOP doing that. if he wants to buy a 240, then let him buy a 240. it's his money, and he knows what he's getting himself into.

It's true that drifting can be hard on your car, but to need to maintain your car the way you describe, it would need to be some fairly serious drifting, and on a regular basis. If you aren't going to be drifting alot, don't worry about it. I used to drift alot when I had my Rx-7, and never encountered that many problems. Don't be afraid of drifting, it's awesome. Sorry that I can't answer your engine question though, Im not a 240 guy, I was just passing through.

How in the hell can you go from an RX-7 to a NEON??? Crazy!

IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Both engines are good for what they do, its a matter of how you use that power and where your skill lies at. The KA is good for TRACK and DRAG, so is the SR, they both can and are used in many kinds of events.
I don't get why you put these two engines into some kind of catagory, they are both good and anything can be done.

Drive one, then ask again...faster and cheaper than a civic, and the engines are wicked (seriously bulletproof, I beat mine). I admit the front ends are ugly, but I wanted a compact, and I hated the cliche of the civic. I wanted something different than the crowd and I got it. I don't regret getting one, its fun. I respect any stock car that can take a downshift to second at 120k (close to 10000rpm) and survive unscathed. Mine did. Sorry about going off topic, but I had to defend my car.
I still love Rx-7's, and I'm buying another...

I dont need to drive a neon to ask that question... I worked at a Chrysler dealership. Haha turbo RX-7's with exhaust are more reliable than neons!
What kind of RX-7 are you buying? My Turbo is for sale...

I do not fear the RWD in winter as 1)My father has a daily driven camaro ss even in the winter,,which i drive occasionally, my mom has a g35, which i drive quite a bit, i used to drive an ae86 corolla b4 the civic.I passed my driving exam with my ae86 manual in a snowstorm.Civics have tons of aftermarket support, unfortunately they are all to common and are FWD.B20 turbos are crap fyi, b18b is a better engine for turbo application.Snow is a bitch but i can live with it.

that they are, and it's a damned shame. at first i thought you were another Honda-boy bandwagon jumper...but the fact that you've owned an AE86 in the past has upped my respect level for you! :icon16:

yes, its true that honda owners are complete dumbasses/ricers that started to modify their cars because of F&F, but id say there is a small portion of honda owners that are really hardcore and know how to make things right.Ae86 is so cool its unbelievable, even i do not recommend that you go beyond the 120kph mark in winter or you will feel what power sliding on a highway means and how scary it is, i know i experienced that feeling and i do not want to live it again.Im probably get a 240 next year as in spring 2004, university is expensive unfortunately...

yeah...well i'm taking a year off before i go to College (because of the damn Ontario situation with the double cohort) so i'm buy a 240SX this summer, most likely mid-July. i have a friend who comes on here every once and a while who owns 2 AE86's, an SR5 and a GT-S. the GT-S is unfortunatley out of commision, but i've driven the SR5 and it's fun, even though it's only like 80hp. and i agree, there are some hardcore Honda people, mainly the guys who do a complete Spoon car.
anyways, back on topic. why planning so early if you're not getting the car for another year?

i want to know what im getting myself into, what troubles i could be facing, talk with nissan guys i know, see which engine is better to set myself a nice comfy budget. Also my civic is not dead yet, and i take good care of it so why would i change a good up and running car that i know what it had faced(belonged to my grandma, so no surprises never revved higher than 4k, i wouldnt be surprised instead of a new used car from which i know nothing.A saying in french is"Better prevent damage than heal damage"Im just gathering information thats all. Also i wanna do every thing custom with my mechanic friend and i want to know what are the problems, how to solve them.
