What is the procedure to replace a pulley shaft seal on a power steering pump on a 1996 Buick Park Avenue Base Model?

You'll need to remove the pump. Then remove the pully. Place the pump in a vise and drive a medium sized flat blade screwdriver between the shaft and the seal, far enough to get most of the tip in behind the seal. Then use the housing of the pump as leverage to pry the seal out. Clean the shaft where the seal rides, apply clean p/s fluid to the new seal and slide over the shaft down to the housing. Use a 13/16 deep socket and hammer to drive the seal into the housing. Re-install the pully and reinstall the pump. Bleed the p/s system.

Yes, really. I do quite a few on the C/K trucks. They are easier than the FWD cars 'cause you don't have to pull the pump, just the pulley.

Thanks, I presume it is easy to also replace the other seals as well while I am there. How is that accomplished?

There is a seal where the plastic resivoir goes into the pump, just remove the retainers for it and pull it out. There is also a seal on the back of the pump. This seal rarely leaks. If it is leaking, I would go ahead and replace the pump because is can be a difficult one to replace and you may damage the cover in the process.

I agree, the aftermarket rebuilds (NAPA, Autozone, ect...) are crap. Spend the extra cash if you can.
