Hello all! It's been around 15 years since my last model car build. I decided to get back into the hobby with my first bike build. It will be a Tamiya Yamaha R1, pretty much modeled after my personal motorcycle, a 2006 Yamaha R6s Raven. Comments, suggestions, etc. are much appreciated. Enjoy!

I decided to start the build with the body and frame. Glued the two sides, primed, sanded, and primed again. Only one coat of metallic black needed luckily.

Next are the middle fairings, which are flat black up top and painted below.

Next job was to tackle the frame. The finish was so nice out of the box...i almost felt bad hitting the finish with 400 grit sand paper...The frame on my R6s is almost a semi-gloss, but has a rough texture. I had a can of spray-on bed liner, and decided to test it out. I was pretty happy with the result. After sanding the frame, I sprayed a coat of primer, followed by the bed-liner, and finally a light coat of flat black.

And the side fairing with flat black upper, metallic black lower, decal applied, and two coats of clear.

Wheels painted flat black with hand painted red rim stripe. The stripe is definitely not perfect, but looks pretty good from a short distance. The rotors holes were all drilled out. Surprisingly, I didn't break one drill bithttp://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/potenza302/IMAG0652.jpg

Starting on the exhaust. First applied black base coat, then applied carbon decal. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/potenza302/IMAG0693.jpg

The almost completed upper fairing/headlight assembly. I'm very happy with the way this has turned out so far.http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/potenza302/IMAG0695.jpg

Near completed rear section. Plenty of touch-up and detail work to do before being assembled with the frame today.http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/potenza302/IMAG0696.jpg

And the front end. Moving the lower triple tree onto the fork assembly tore up some of the paint. Again, a lot more touch up to be done on this piece as well. I drilled out the center of the bar-ends to try to replicate the silver bolt holding the piece to the bar. http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/potenza302/IMAG0700.jpg

Practice makes perfect. This carbon stuff is pretty hard to work with, but I think I just got the hang of it.http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/potenza302/IMAG0699.jpg

Some cleared carbon parts. I made sure that the left and right side parts are symmetrical.

I drilled out the holes on the exhaust clamp...directions say to paint the holes black, but I think it looks way better seeing the carbon through the holes.

And a pic of the completed exhaust..from this angle, you can see a bit of the carbon through the exhaust clamp holes.

And after about two months, I have finally completed my first motorcycle model. I'm pretty happy with the results. Soon I will take some pics of my model and real bike together. Comments of all kinds are welcome. Thanks!
