Where are you from?

I'm from the Blue Mountains in NSW Australia.

Here is a pic of my baby, has a 1275 bored to 1297 cc also, single SU, extracters and that is about the lot, goes in soon for a mild cam, porting and polishing and possibly cc ing. then I have to decide if I go for the webber or twin SU setup, do you have dificulties tuning twin carbies?

Cheers,

Dan.

Im from Dunedin New Zealand

Its not possible to bore a 1275 block out to 1297

The first step like mine is 1293 then the next takes it to 1310.

Twin SU are easy to keep in tune, just as simple as a single carb. Youll hear alot about how hard they are to keep in tune as I have but Ive never heard it once from someone who has them, its always from people who are justifying staying with one.

The mechanic who built my motor is really into SU's, he runs twin 1 3/4 from a rover V8 on his Drag racing mini thatll do a low 15. He even put SU's on an Early Toyota Starlet that he raced.

Saying that itll go better with a Webber but even with teh spec of my motor I dont get good fuel consumption and with a webber I could halve that. If you want it for fun go for it, if its a daily driver I wouldnt reccomend it unless youve got deep pockets

Must be 1293 then, I have not long owned the car, and the bloke I bought it off told me it was bored to 1297.

I have a mate that has twin SU's and has no trouble with them eiher.

Thanks for the advice,

Dan.

Also it is only a weekend driver, if that.

I have a skyline as my day driver. should not really drive it daily, but it is such a nice car, and handles almost as well as the mini!

Cheers,

Dan.

Is that what they are worth over there?
I payed $NZ100 for the first set and got a second pair for free if i was prepered to take them off myself.

Maybe thats a good price over there, I know they are really expensive new, ive never seen a new set, we just take them off MG1100's and recondition them here

Do they come with K/N filters and correct inlet manifold for that sort of money? K/N's are around Ģ30 each new.

It's definately from the tail end of the Minis that were assembled in NZ under British Leyland. I've seen a few odd-ball imports from the UK or Aussie but there's a serious lack post 1980 Minis in NZ :(

...Unless you're wanting to pay $40 grand for a new Cooper!

I wouldnt say the new one is a cooper at all, ive in the last week seen a new one for the frist time and its ******* huge, yet its got the same size boot and rear leg room as the original, it might look like a mini but its been a poor example of space conservation.

You can buy the original shape 90s coopers imported from japan for 10-15 thousand but they are pretty rough and usually fixed up accident damaged ones.

My Mini is registered as a 1981 but it was first registered on the 6th of January 1981 so it is really a 1980 model, possibly even had the registration put off for a few days so it looked newer.

I've got a knackered 998 austin, covered in rust but I've beaten a 1.4 car over a 8-mile race!! it's got some old cobra buckets, and should soon have a 2400Watt stereo in place of the back seats!!

I've also got a Red Mazda RX7 with a dual-wing alloy spoiler, jap-stlye side graphics, lowered sports suspension, Janspeed exhaust, full undercar blue neons, red LED washer-jets, red "knight-rider" LEDs on the back, and green strobes in the front (now clear) indicators. 2.3 litre, 18 years old, and up for sale!!!! (Ģ1900)

You can get 1560 out of a A-Series engine :)
Mine is still a 1275.
1975 British Leyland Mini 1275GT.
Like yours, it had those ugly (donīt get me wrong, I didnīt like mine!) 12'' wheels. I like my minis with 10''. Got Cooper S discs and a set of Cosmic 10 rims and he looks great.

Cheers from Portugal.
