Yes! The kit is likely curbside, but I'm quite sure that Gio will produce a transkit. :grinyes:

Thats a surprise. A new tool, classic car from Tamiya. I guess since they already have the 1/12 version a lot of the work will have already been done.

Tamiya are also listing the release of a 1/24 Zakspeed Capri this time in Wurth colors. This kit has been around for years but i don't think its been done in the Wurth colors before.

Same here! Hope Tamiya puts more details (such as engine and fuel tank details, just like the 1/12 version) into the kit instead of using their 911 Turbo as a base.

Hope aftermarket companies can make the Vaillant decals for the 934, as it's one of my favorite liveries for this car, besides the Jagermeister version. Looks good next to the Kremer 935!

Hello,

ESCI did the Vaillant livery, together with the Jägermeister version.
There was the possibility to make either Vaillant or Jägermeister.

Later DMC produced this decal also.

I don't think the picture from the Vaillant car above is a 934 but a replica.
Not sure, but I don't think there are right hand drive 934's made?
Also the boot spoiler is incorrect and the Vaillant striping wasn't on the front fender. Don't get me wrong, I like this car, it's very nice.

I agree with Joka-1: as far as I can see all the original 934's (and 935's, I suspect) were left-hand drive. Interestingly, all the homologation paperwork in the Barth / Dobdronz 934-935 book shows photos of the left-hand drive dashboard layout - so a right-hand layout would probably have been 'illegal' in period! The 935-78 was RHD, of course, but this car wasn't technically based on the 930 Turbo road car...

Having said all that, I will certainly be adding one or two of these kits to my stash when they are available...you never know, one day I might even try building one of them!

Same here! Hope Tamiya puts more details into the kit instead of using their 911 Turbo as a base.

Best bet is that they will use the 911 Turbo kit as a base, including the simple curbside chassis. It's difficult to imagine Tamiya having the resources to invest in a new full detail kit these days (several years of an overvalued Yen has been brutal).

This is likely a new and very nice bodyshell, a nice set of PE, and a great set of Cartograf markings. It will fit great and it will look great- but it will be a very simple kit.

generationx

I would have thought it's more likely Tamiya will use the 935 chassis as a starting point.

Just when I start to completely rebuild the ESCI 78 Monte Carlo winner Tamiya release a better base !! :sly: :banghead: :icon16:
Anyway there would also be some work to get the perfectly accurate rally version so...
Will see, maybe will buy one though, depending on the price...

Good spot on the authenticity of the car joka! The rear wing is indeed wrong as it's from the later 911 Turbos instead of the "whale tail" as seen on the real 934s.

This should be the authentic 934 (from thetripspotter.com):

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x216/ng_nmda/Porsche%20934/934vaillant02_zps844bafc6.jpg

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x216/ng_nmda/Porsche%20934/934vaillant01_zps45cf40fa.jpg

If Tamiya does use the chassis of the 935, that means the underside detail will be even less than that of the 911 Turbo as the 935 was originally designed to be motorized :uhoh:

There may be some clues to the questions about the tooling from the feature bullets on the box art. Unfortunately, the resolution on the photo is a bit too blurry for me to make out.

jano11
01-23-2013, 07:07 PM
First bullet reads: 1/24 scale sports car series
Second bullet guess: Race bred body.....
Third bullet guess: Interior ...
Fourth bullet says: photo etched parts and metal transfers included

Fifth and sixth are impossible to make anything out of them.

CrateCruncher
01-25-2013, 11:21 AM
Ok, maybe it's not as hard as I thought. It's an eye chart but I made some more out....

*1/24 SCALE SPORTS CAR SERIES *EMBLEMATIC FORM OF THE GROUP 4 IS ACCURATELY REPRODUCED

*RACE BRED BODY INCLUDING FLARED FENDERS AND LARGE REAR WING FAITHFULLY REPRODUCED

*INTERIOR, SUSPENSION, AND CHASSIS UNDERSURFACE HAVE A RICH FINISH

*PHOTO-ETCHED PARTS AND METAL TRANSFERS INCLUDED TO HEIGHTEN MODEL REALISM

*READY TO ASSEMBLE PLASTIC MODEL KIT * REALISTICALLY.................????? THIS IS NOT A TOY

*MODEL MAY VARY FROM IMAGE ON BOX * CEMENT AND PAINT NOT INCLUDED

I sense from the description this is just going to be another curbside light on mechanical details (as MPWR predicted). I hope I'm wrong but that description sounds like someone trying to stretch 4 features into 10 bullets.

jano11
01-25-2013, 01:01 PM
Great job deciphering that!

Yep, 99.9% sure it will be curbside, otherwise there would be a mention of the engine detail in the 3rd point.

thijs37
01-31-2013, 05:55 AM
Well you can see what the model...Curbside! looks like (pics of model complete and on the sprue's) it does have a better molded underside with deeper detail of the engine but its still molded in the underside

also no chromeplated parts for the wheels and headlight buckets, they are on the Orange sprue (however i do think they will be done in chromeplating because the sprue has got a seperate area just for the Rims and headlight buckets)

Pictures can be found on "Tamiya Blog -Tamiya new releases at 2013 nuremberg toy fair"

LOL and the rims looks exactly as the old closed ones coming from 935/76 of decades ago,as well as the entire sprue of the lower chassis.

Seems they basically invest in a new body, a mini sprue for interior, some PE (surely they cost less than a palstic mould) and quality decal from cartograf.

Wonder about the price of this.

Little disappointing honestly...

Hello,

thanks for posting these pictures here.
At first look I don't say "Woow",
but this is probably not the end product?

I'm a bit dissapointed in the fenders extensions, they seems to have no rivet hole's?
(I thought Tamiya would make these )

I also think the rims will come in chrome. ( at least I hope )

It looks nice, but it will cost twice the Heller kit I assume.

Looks like they kept the price down on this kit. All the roof problems on the early 1/24th Tamiya 911 based cars is fixed. No engine but still seems a very good value with Cartograf and photoetch.

I bought a couple: it would be a superb platform for my Sc transkit, with the roll cage and all the other stuff, and skipping the body issues, I'll offer a TK for the SC for very reasonnable price.... and with a full engine; we'll see if it is worth to work on 934 gears like PE intercooler and stuff and offers a engine pack for the 934 also....

Looks like many of us will be busy building Porsches this year as Studio27 will release a bunch of decals for the 934 in mid April. Gotta grab at least 2 sets of Vaillant decals to build the blue and white Kremer-Vaillant cars!

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1834/0/1

A 934 transkit with pe, full engine and perhaps fuel tank details would be perfect! I'm in for at least two sets if it ever gets produced.

Got the kit. For some reason there are no Dunlop decals in the kit. Aftermarket to the rescue... again... :-(

Dunlop decals in front of the rear wheel arches where they should be.

Dunlop was included as recent as 2011 in the reissue of Porsche 961, but not in 2012 release of Mazda 787B. It must be just a cost-cutting measure, like Tamiya did with other tire manufacturers.
It'd be nice if Tamiya released a plain white version at a cheaper price, like Fujimi does. Then we can get a complete set of aftermarket decal without deliberate omission.

I agree that it is dissapointing that they didn't include some pretty basic sponsorship decals, its not like they are tobacco logo's or anything.

Okay lets keep things in perspective! Here you are buying a model of the famous 934 Jagermeister porsche! you thought wow thats pretty good value! by the time you come home, you start doing your research and then you start noticing Hmm no Dunlop decals...okay no biggy then you notice no Shell decals...now it is becoming a biggy because i want the car thats its supposed to be...thats why i bought it in the first place! now i have to pay more money on a replacement set of decals....thats another 12 dollars plus postage and packaging! So its around 15-20 dollars extra! Enough perspective?

thijs37
04-23-2013, 06:59 PM
On the other hand...it might just be something completely out of Tamiya's hands! It might have something to do with Porsche! If i was Tamiya i would like to make a big deal on the 50th anniversary of the 911 (and re-release all porsche's Tamiya ever made--Tamiya's business model trough the years!)...But maybe that might just steal Porsche's thunder in the official Factory Teams return to Le Mans! That might be sponsored by Shell and Dunlop Maybe? if thats the story....I will be eating "humble pie"

Really???? Are you completely new to modeling because that would be the only excuse for the ignorance flowing from you keyboard.

First of all there are no images of Dunlop or Shell logos on the box art. That should have been your first clue.

Second this has nothing to do with Porsche and everything to do with licensing agreements between Tamiya, Dunlop and Shell.

Just as Tamiya refuses to pay expensive licensing cost to Goodyear they have chosen not to pay them to Dunlop or Shell in the interest of keeping the overall kit price down. So the extra money you are complaining about spend for after market fill in decals is likely still cheaper then if Tamiya had paid for a proper license and included the cost in the kit price.

Really getting tired of reading complaints about prices and costs. Everyone just needs to sit down, shut up and build before openning their pie hole to complain!!!!!!!!!!!

If leaving out decals rather than paying exorbitant license fees results in a cheaper kit then that is all good to me..... Especially when you consider that a lot of these 934's will be built with aftermarket decals. Why pay more for a kit to include accurate decals, when you're only going to throw that decal sheet out ?

The Dunlop and Shell decals should be easy to make for anybody that has made decals like I have. The tire decals would be hard though because inkjet decals are not very opaque. Hopefully some tire only decals will be available. We should contact Indycals about these, he makes great decals and allot of fill in and tire decals.
