i have a 98 camaro z28. just replaced the thermostat. its getting cold and the car wont hold any heat to keep the heater going..

from what i undersand there are 3 major components in this. thermostat, heater core, blower motor. Blower motor is good, thermostat is brand new, and if i let the car sit there and idle for a while the temp does build up, but as soon as i take off again it droops to around 170... HELP PLZ

the thermostat should be a 195 F in most cases. the thermostat must sit tightlly in the bore. this will require a gasket around the edge in most cases. the the goose neck locks down and seals this outer ring of the intake/thermostat so no coolant can go around it.

both the heater hoses need be hot. this means you have good flow thru the heater core. if only one hose hot this means the core is restricted or the water pump is getting air to it run engine with coolant pressure cap off to get the air out idle and rev a few times until at normal temp which should be about 200f....

a good heater should throw 140 deg f air ..

I agree......with car at normal operating temp, BOTH heater core hoses should be hot.....if the outlet is cooler than the inlet, then the core is partially plugged and should be reversed flushed, and the system burped.......

If BOTH heater core hoses are hot, you have a temp door problem....
