Hello guys

Itīs been a long time since i posted a wip in AF.
But now in my working table i have the new Ford Fiesta WRC from Belkits, and i'm doing the Black Livery - Rally of France 2011.
So the waiting was over and for the last 2 weeks i've done a lot of work.

The kit will be almost OOB, only with minor changes.

First thing was to sand the mold lines, glued the front-fenders and aplied the first coat of primary...

After that the first coat of Brilliant Black...

Completed the chassis with some wear...

And the interior is almost done to...

The last thing iīve done till now was to include the solar protections on the windows...

Tell me what you think. :)

The next steps will be towards the beautiful decoration. :grinyes:

Looking good so far and the interior is really nicely detailed. Can't wait to see how the decals apply...

Interesting build, I've just started the Henning Solberg version, but with some improvements as the kit, even if good, has some strange conception choices that deserves some work on them, especially opening the front face, and then, making the radiators.
I will probably show my work in a WIP but I lack time...

Thank you guys!

The body have almost every decals applied... so the kit will be ready in the next days. :runaround:
I was scared about the size of some of the decals, but after all they are really good and easy to apply and nothing that some MicroSol and a hair-dryer donīt fix it.
Belkits have done a good work in this matter.

Nice decalling job and good result, this model with this particular livery will look good for sure !!
PS: if you want some pics of the real car (for display purpose or so) feel free to ask as I have some good pics of it living on the area of the France/Alsace rally.

I noticed that Belkits said to use gloss black for the body color. I can't see how that is correct. The reference pics show that the paint of the car is flat or semi-gloss at best, no? I would think that the decal part of the "paint" is gloss and then everything else is flat. Am I wrong? Anyone care to show a pic that proves me wrong? Here's the one I saw:

(I'm very interested, as this car and livery is one of my next projects...)

Thanks.

Daniel

Hello Daniel
I had that doubt also when i started building my Fiesta, but looking to the decal sheet and comparing with the reference pics, you will notice that you should paint the car Gloss Black, or Satin Black.

The parts that i've signed in red in the reference pics, are parts that show the color that should be painted in the body. The green ones are the parts that are included as decals.

Your best bet would be to complete the decalling over gloss black, then clear the decals, polish out, then mask off the sections to stay gloss and airbrush or spray can a satin or matt coat.
I've seen this done on the Tanak version and it works well.

On looking closely at it, it looks as if they tried to vary the finish gotten from the decals. ie/Some of the decals have a *definite* gloss and some more of a semi-gloss or satin appearance. I'm just not sure that this way will get the desired effect.

Paul, I may just end up doing that. I'd rather not but hey--whoever said things would be easy? ;)

Sincerely, having seen the car very closely at service park or on some stages, under different conditions of light, it's very hard to clearly say how the car is or has to be. I think belkit plus or minus perfectly restitutes the colors.
When you see the car from a certain distance, it looks all black, mostly matt... When you are closer it looks like it's grey, and depending on the light it seems grey and black, matt or glossy...!?!
So I think that the perfect shades or black couldn't be restituted perfectly more than it is.
I may follow same paint scheme for mine (damn, I now have 5 fiesta WRC to build !!) as I don't see better way to get somethig accurate close to reality.

Thanks, Phil. I wouldn't paint it anything other than black, just varying sheens of black. (Gloss/semi/flat.) I would love to get up close and personal with the WRC cars but they're pretty much nonexistent in the USA...:(

And i though that i was crazy with my 3 Fiesta WRC builds... :p

So Ford Fiesta Black Livery is ready, with some problems in some areas of the car, since the clear coat that i aplied to protect the decals had react with the black paint of the body, and made some parts look like some skin rash... :uhoh:

I already had polish some of that areas to try to amend some of the damage paint work, and realized that the windshield wipers were wrong. But i didnīt take any pics after that, so for now only some first pics that i've taken indoors...

Very nice one, just hope for better pics !! :sly: :evillol: :naughty:
I would only suggest you to put a black wash in the front radiators slots to give a more accurate effect, not only full silver.
You did it very fast, and the decal work is really great. Hope to do as good on mine.
PS: my 5th fiesta WRC isn't confirmed, but I'm really tempted by the PitWall decal, if I can convert it to german version I may not resits any longer...

Just a little input on the color. The set of decals I got actually says the color should be Matt black. And I also looked at a clip from the rally, and from it it looks like the basic color of the car is Matt black and then all the sponsor markings are gloss black.

Actually, mine has mat black but it's marked out, with "Gloss" hand written over it...odd... :/
