No Temperature Gauge

I recently purchased a 2010 Mazda 3. It does not have a temperature gauge. Really?? I would like to install a temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge. I wonder how hard it would be and if there would be a place easy to hook into without messing up some sensor or something like that??

My 08 has a temperature gauge, I don't know how or where the gauge gets it's input. With a universal gauge kit with electric gauges you may have to fabricate a way to attach a sender maybe in the upper water hose, I doubt there is a fitting that can be removed to install a sender. Look for one in the thermostat outlet. If you use a tube
type with a bulb sensor you should be able to insert in in the top water hose under the clamp. It will be hard to seal because the system is pressurized.

The switch for the oil pressure light is near the oil filter. The switch is closed with low oil pressure. You could install a mechanical gauge fitting between the oil pressure switch and the block. Another possible leak area.

I have not tried my suggestions but anyone good with tools shouild be able to figure out a way to install both gauges. Will it be easy? Probably not.

My Honda Fit doesn't have a temp gauge but I'm not going to try installing one.

I spent quite a bit of time e-mailing back and forth with a tech rep at Auto Meter. In the end, like Flash75 says, the oil pressure gauge would be easy to hook up. The guy from Auto Meter says that the factory water temp sender can not be removed or tampered with without causing serious issues. So, he recommended an in line fitting that splices into a hose running to the heater core. In the end, I do not think that I going to install either, as much as I would like to, because I can not find a decent place to actually put the gauge in the passenger compartment; there is simply no room!

One possibility is to mount individual gauge pods n the upper dash in front of the driver's view. Routing wire will be a real pain but at least you wont be messing with airbags.
