Hi to all.
This is my first wip in this forum and I will try to show you the process that I'm doing with the Porsche 911 GT3 of an spanish driver called Miguel Angel de Castro:

http://www.drivex.net/img/galeria/imagenes/8.jpg

I started it a few months ago modifying it from the previous year model (07). Now, I'am in the middle of the proyect but you can get all the process from the begining at my blog.

Just to say that the original paints and lacquer belong to Number5 and the decals are made by Decallab.

Anyway, here you have some of the pictures.

The model OOB:

Hi to all,

first of all, thanks a lot for your comments. They make me more happy to follow with this project.

j.layos: Of course we will see soon together (at least in Leganés 2013 contest!!)

We continue with the interior, and with this picture series, I bring all wiring. Only missing the seat and rollcage. In the following photos, I show some general shots:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3155.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31556.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31550.jpg

A few views in more detail:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31538.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31537.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31536.jpg

One of the latest additions is a viewer that the car has in the right rear window. I did it with Evergreen, placing a decal blue screen mode, and posted it on on the rollcage, with the usual cables:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31520.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31511.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31515.jpg

And with the backet, after removal previous layer filings, and painted matte black, I put the decals on (they were requested to Decallab) and later, with the airbrush, the new matte varnish Alclad: fantastic, as you can see in the photos, Recaro decals that are not noticed anything. I also put the black belts, and is failing to put the rest of belts, and paste into its site:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31524.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31523.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31522.jpg

If we put the seat in place:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31548.jpg

And the roll bar ...

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31545.jpg

And if we put the body, little is going to see inside ...

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3157.jpg

So in Leganes 2013 contest, the chassis and body will be separately like this:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31510.jpg

Hope you like it, thanks for looking and commenting!

Let's go with wheels. As supplements, we take the Hobby Design wheels for this model, the brake discs of Crazy Modellers and calipers also of Hobby Design. We maintain tires of Profil24 box:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3163.jpg

We begin with the disks. Once assembled, we passed sandpaper 1000 in the minidrill, left the disk brightness. And for the attachment to the rim, we cut Evergreen disks which will stick in the center of the outer part of the disc:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3161.jpg

We place the discs and calipers on some sticks and we mask the disk for painting the interior ...

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3165.jpg

... with Tamiya acrylic Titanium Gold:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31611.jpg

Once dry, we glue the clamps on the discs and give a thin wash of very diluted black matt on calipers and disks, and put the decal on the caliper:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31622.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31626.jpg

Come with tires, which are very fragile first, but excellent creation. The first thing I do is give a cyano layer on the outside of the rear wheels, to ensure the fine edge they have, and remove the inside of the rim (myself will create the setting, as the brake discs can not fit through bringing the tube):

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3160.jpg

we review all internal edges with mini limes, and give white primer, this time from Vallejo. I found it very good:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3168.jpg

Next step: Alclad black primer ....

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31614.jpg

... To then painted with Alclad Chrome. Ii is fantastic for me! Also, if I put the finger, then I can remove the mark with a stick, and leaves brighten up!

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31616.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31618.jpg

We finished the whole tyres sanding them, putting valves and Porsche decals in the center and "Dunlop" on the tire (both from Crazy Modeler). I must say, for this, I used the liquid Tameo decals, the extra strong, literally sticking the decal to the tire and leaves as if the rubber itself: perfect!. It was recommended by Spotmodel. Nuts also painted blue and metallic red of Hobby Color.

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT31623.jpg

Now we just need to spend a matte black soft coat highly diluted and ready to ride! And the next ... body!
Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks to all for your comments, they are welcomed!!

Frank,
being honest, I did not know about that rims, but now, that I have them at home, I agree with you that they are fantastic. And in my opinion, they need a bit of dust/weathering to take out that perfect (and sometimes, not real) shine. I like the cars very clean, but with a little weathering to be more real. Anyway, thanks a lot for your comments that they will be always appreciated!!

It was time to put something over Porsche, and in this case: the painting phase. For this I used the Racing White, Yellow Dunlop and Rosso Corsa, all of Number5. The white was already done, so it's up to the yellow mask. To make the mask, first put Scotch tape that sticks well and is painted with pencil better. The car took off and put on the belt Tamiya, previously attached to the table. With a cutter, I cut the two belts on the line of the pencil, and separated them, and transferred the Tamiya one to the body. I filled in the rest of the body and gave a very soft white hand to fill the joints.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-01.jpg

When it was dried, I gave two layers of yellow:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-13.jpg

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-21.jpg

Once it was applied, this was the result:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-71.jpg

I sanded it with 3000 and warm water and then, I masked with the same method:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-111.jpg

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-121.jpg

Two layers ... and red:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/911-GT3-17-17.jpg

Once dry, I removed the tape and I sanded with 2500 and warm water to smooth edges. We also reviewed some other malfunction of the three colors, with the same paint, but with a brush, which is the final result:

What next? I will coat to put the decals.

We continued small advances. In this case with lights that warn of the maximum speed. They are located above the address hand column, between the steering wheel and dashboard. There are six colored lights, two transparent, two orange and two red, ranging in a box made with evergreen, where I made six drill holes of 0.3 mm. This box is secured to the column by a littele piece of soda can. In turn, once painted and with its lights on, the panel will have a connection with a coiled wire. I put the pieces of unpainted time:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-3.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-3.jpg)

And talking about the wheel, here are what I've done. Once glued the photogravures, prints and painted in satin black. For buttons, stretched sprue cut white, cyan and subsequently hit with one on one with paint brush. Five photogravures for rivets and some Tamiya masking tape, cut to order, made signal on the steering wheel.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-19.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-19.jpg)

And after the steering wheel, the dashboard in its current state. The interruptures can be seen the center panel, the lights that are around the digital panel (which will have a homemade decal) and a cable that rage. The two holes above the center panel, and the one on the left, are reserved to the air vents that lead to the pilot. Failure to put a decal of Dunlop, Porsche and the "warning" on the center console.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-12.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-12.jpg)

More parts: front grill, folded and painted, two wipers (original kit and another from Crazy modellers) to see which is better, and the fuel input jack, gravure kit (to this, we added two circles of evergreen for depth). Everything is painted with Tamiya semi-gloss black (X18).

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-13.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-13.jpg)

And after all this I've been doing pieces while the body, it was the turn of the first layer of varnish to adapt decals. I used the Zero Clearcote ready to apply directly with the airbrush. And the first thing I show is the rear spoiler. While I will not put more on the higher plane, the sides will have their decals:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-28.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-28.jpg)

At the same time, the mirrors, the lateral drift of the front apron and a strip of the same flap will have their ration of decals, being the mirrors of Dunlop, and the rest of fiber:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-27.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-18-27.jpg)

And to finish this series, here you have the body with two coats of varnish, and removed a couple of dusts and a pair of sagging excess varnish. Note the black painted headlights because the fund will be chrome (with Alclad after the coating process) and the rest will go fiber. Without further ado, the photos:

Next step: the decals. Not too much to say. Decalab made me the decals that are very thin so I put a white dot below the ceiling one, because we will see the red color trhu the decal. Furthermore, these decals are not profiled as commercial ones. You have a slide over ll the drawingssand you have to trim decal as close to drawing as posible. But don't heasitate to cut very close because it is so thin, you do not notice once applied.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-0.jpg

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-1.jpg

I applied them with Tameo liquid: one pass of the brush where the decal goes, slide the decal, remove the excess and bubbles with a brush, and use the dryer. When dry, the Tameo liquid is passed again and let it sit.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-2.jpg

I have to say that the decals are so thin, that ruined the Dunlop front and rear. I called Sergio of Decallab, and I had those decals at home 4 days later, free of charge. A good post sales service.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-3.jpg

Once dry, pass the new blade cutter for decals that match the panels, and wet again with the liquid. Simply perfect.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-4.jpg

Also took advantage to put fiber decal on the headlights and air drifts of the front apron, upon template made with Tamiya masking tape. Process for application: the same.

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-5.jpg

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/911-GT3-19-6.jpg

We have done something else in the complete process. Next is a layer of varnish, paneling and lacquer.

Thanks for looking and comment

We're nearing the end, and while the body recovers from an error made on three decals (when trying to clean it with cleaner N5 .... - do not tell me anything :crying:), and waiting for the reset Decallab, I advance in other tasks.
We start with the crystals, the light rears. Once cut, put some Scotch Cellophane, which trace the outline of the glass which is transparent. I put on a Tamiya masking tape, cut it, and put it in the overhead inside. On the outside, I hit another piece of masking tape and put it on the clip. Then it was painted with airbrush with Tamiya transparent red. Here you see the result, one with a glass removed from the tape:

And if we remove all the masks, you see this. Note that the inner edges of the mask are not profiling, and Future is also missing:

Regarding the front ones, once they have been cut, I had to dye them. For that, I read that putting a few drops of Tamiya transparent yellow in Future, and entering the glass, you are dying until you like it. And so I did, but plunged right after shaking, which filled them with some bubbles!!. And what could I do? I remembered the Craft Kit Micro-Mesh. Fantastic! I was passing all sponges from 1500 to 12000, one by one and changing the direction of rubbing en each sponge. In the end, everything is removed, and it was good! Now there was only insert in yellow Future. But instead of soaking, I was giving brush layers, about 4 or 5 times, with drying times. After that, I turned the crystals and gave them another 4 or 5 layers. Finally, here is the result, still supports (sticks with blue-tack):

And crystals of the body? The kit brings some decals, I thought I'd paint the edges and do it by myself. I made photocopies of the decals and cut out. I put them on the inside of the glass, covering the outside, and airbrushed with Tamiya X18:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/911-GT3-20-3.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/911-GT3-20-3.jpg)

And here you have overlapping the front and rear:

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/911-GT3-20-4.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/911-GT3-20-4.jpg)

http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/911-GT3-20-5.jpg (http://blog.maquetea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/911-GT3-20-5.jpg)

Something finished: the dashboard. I made the turn signal lever with plastic stretched, the air vents were cut from tin folded, which made a hole in the end and I painted the edge with X18. Decals, speed lights: I glued all to the dashboard, and this is the result. It ca be improved, but I'm happy with the result:

Next update: now it is more complete. It takes many actions given in the body especially. We start with the lights. Here I show the crystals and finished headlights, just a black border is missing in the rear ones. I also cut the bottom of the rear ones made of paper tobacco packets. It w

ill be attached to the bottom:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3219_zpsc19f38ae.jpg

Other body parts:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT32110_zpsed9aeb5a.jpg

And finally, the body lacquered with Number5. It has a fine hand, and three subsequent normal layers with 10-15 minutes between them. The result: I have to varnish more fequently. I had littles dusts and orange peel, and caramel-like in general (too fat for my taste):

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT32115_zps8822c219.jpg

And as always, some pictures from other angles:

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT32120_zpsbec125cf.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT32122_zps10b0a302.jpg

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT32123_zpscd6944fb.jpg

In the following picture, the spoiler is over the body, also lacquered:

Then, as I was not convinced with it, I started to polish it, also with the set of Number5. First the 2000 water sandpaper, who took out all the shine.

After that, a 3000 soft sandpaper with 3000, clean and polish it. Squeeze some dough with the stick and gave him the job in the minidrill useful. And the shine started to show. A little bit of it, and more minidrill. At the end, I gave it about four times to the entire body, eliminating dusts, orange peel, and the caramel aparience. For my taste, perfect!

We can see in the following pictures, a reflection studies, including the famous bulb:

Once ready, masked to paint the frames, and this time use the Semi Gloss Black Zero, ready to shoot with aero: perfect:

Here it is already painted with the front spoiler and drifts, that they were applied a coat of very diluted Smoke mixed with some of the sifter matt (which is used for paneling):

Last post on work in progress of this project. Here I show the three main parts of it: body, chassis and dashboard. It was difficult to ride because if I put the dash in the chassis, the steering wheel was on the roll bar. IF I put it in the body, the dashboard was in the front wheel arches ... So what I did was mount the chassis in the body (I had to put the back of the chassis inside the body between the rear wheel arches) leaving a hole through which I got the dashboard, and when he had placed on its place ... Cyanoacrylate and Volia! Then I put the set screw. It is the last photo of these separated parts ...

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/ss249/JesusM_album/Porsche%20911%20GT3%202008/911GT3FIN1_zps95455100.jpg

Once done, i had to add the wheels and body accessories: front grilles, headlights of ScaleProduction (very good!), Sensors in the basin of the headlights, fuel inlet ...

And in the background rear lights, I added tobacco paper:
