2005 Corolla Remove/Replace Charcoal Canister

My check engine light has been on for the past 2 years on my 05 Corolla with 155,000 miles. I initially took it to the dealer and they retrieved the codes saying it is the charcoal canister and purge valve and they want $800 to fix it.

The car has had expired Texas inspection sticker for over a year now because it won't pass with check engine light on.
I just recently got a ticket for expired inspection sticker. So I don't want put off any longer.

My question is: Is it difficult to remove the old canister and replace it myself???
I am somewhat mechanically inclined.
I also read on the internet that just replacing the valve would be sufficient?
Thanks.
