1988 accord auto tranny leaking

I have a 1988 accord LX with 225K miles. 2 or 3 days ago I noticed a very large puddle of tranny fluid under the car. Upon inspection, the fluid is coming out of the tranny case above the shift cable. The spot looks almost like something has punched through from the inside, but the car drives ok... Any ideas what might have caused this or how to fix (other than tranny replacement)? Thanks.

Oh yikes.

Given the proximity to the CV shaft I'd say that might be exactly what happened, except it might be something that got tossed by the shaft into the case, I see what looks like a big high speed contact scuff adjacent to it, inspect the shaft and joint for damage too...

There is no GOOD permanent repair that could be done with the tranny in place, and even if you wanted to try the quick and dirty route like a JB Weld patch or something you'd at least have to drain it of all fluid and let it sit long enough for fluid to stop seeping through (days probably), then clean and scuff the area good so the epoxy would adhere...

Otherwise, a tranny shop or Honda specialist may be able to re-shell the tranny with a case they have from a bad one...just transfer your guts into a new housing, in other words...I got a price of $350 to do that from a Honda shop where my wife knocked a chunk outta hers hitting highway debris.
