2008 Avenger stuck in park

Got in my 2008 Avenger to go somewhere yesterday and I started it and stepped on the break like always and tried putting it in gear and it would not come out of park. I checked all the doors and trunk and everything was closed. Step on the break more, turned the steering wheel from side to side and restarted the car and still will not come out of park. I bought this car used a year ago and remember seeing something on the fax report about a recall and repairing some spring on the shifter. Could this be the problem or Is there a sensor or fuse that would be keeping it in park? Any input on this would be appreciated

Was this car parked on a small incline?

Caution - You might be able to block rear wheels & jack up the front.

Car is parked on a flat road. I bought this car used a year ago and remember seeing something on the fax report about a recall or repairing some spring on the shifter. Could this be the problem?

Do a Google ''2008 avenger stuck in park recall''
It looks like a bad pink plastic part holding a four thousand lbs car in the Parked pos.
www.rockauto.com (http://www.rockauto.com) , might have a replacement part made of metal.

Found a cheap solution -

How much would a Transmission shop charge for a transmission fix?

Thanks for the info. I did a search and found I do have recall for the Auto Trans Lever interlock Spring which is incomplete on my car. This the problem. I also found a quick fix to get it out of park from youtube video.
