I have a 2000 LS, V6, that won't start, had the battery and altenator checked and are fine, last week i notice when I turn the switch to start up there was a 1 or 2 second delay then it would start, the other day the wife called me at work to tell she she was out and it wouldn't start as I was talikng to her she tried it and it started right up, didn't do it again until this morning, check the fuses and all were ok, it started 2 times then about 30 minutes, nothing, and i mean nothing, the security on the dash doesn't indicate a problem, I turn the switch everything lights ups as it should, everything works(radio...etc.) go to start and nothing but click, sounds like it comes from the fuse/relay box under the hood, starter maybe? relay? any help would be greatly appreciated

What the PATS light doing? Is it on steady, or is it flashing. If it's flashing then it's a problem with the PATS system, key, or PCM.

There is a starter relay under the hood. You might try swapping it with a known working relay (like the horn relay). On the starter itself, there is a solenoid relay. You can get to it from under the car and test it. You can also verify that battery power it getting to the starter. It might be as simple as a loose and/or corroded cable.

Since you mention the Security light does not indicate an issue, I'm assuming it's not flashing. The delay of the starter motor leading up to eventually the single click with no start sounds very consistent with a bad starter motor assembly. As mentioned you can confirm with a test light that the starter motor assembly is getting power and that the solenoid is also getting a trigger when the key is turned to the Start position which would confirm the issue is the starter motor assembly.

Didn't have a tester, so I did it the hard way, I fought with the top bolt on this damn starter for what seemed like hours, took it down it, it tested good, came home put it back on, still nothing, swapped out the starter relay, and the s.o.b. started right up, so I hope I found the problem, thanks for the help, if I have anymore problems I know where to come to.
