Service Engine Soon

Hello:

I have a 97 Ford Taurus. I am getting Service Engine Soon light on my car's panel. I am wondering what could be wrong.

One thing that I noticed is that soon after I got the light, I went to fill up up the gas since I was almost running out of it. And I found that the gas cap was not closed properly. My gas cap does not have threads, it clicks into its place when I close it. I was having only 1/4th of the tank filled with gas when the light started showing up.

I am wondering if the light is related to this. The engine however sounds and runs great as usual.

Any comments.

Thanks.

It could be nothing it could be something. If the car is running "right" then I wouldn't worry about it so much. You can purchase an OBD2 scanner at quite a few places. Or you can go to a dealer and pay for them to scan it. I (and keep in mind that this is me and my money/cars we're talking about) never worried much about check engine lights when the car was running right. I recently chased a problem for a week...come to find out it was a hose that came off in the car. You can clear the light by disconnecting your battery (you will lose your radio presets too) and see if it comes back....or have the code scanned.

I personally (like I did) would get an OBD2 scanner. It comes in handy to have and it'll pay for itself after a few check engine lights.

its proably nothing. Before the engine was rebuilt on my car, the service engine soon light was on all the time. It turned out that the sensor was abd and when that was replaced it never acted up again.

Thanks for your replies. It went away on Saturday. I think it was because of the improperly closed gas cap.

Thanks for your responses.
