It's tentatively priced at 2800 yen + tax, which I think reasonable for today's standard.

Aoshima blog hints at a different design approach, and I hope it's not like Fujimi's simplified interior tub.
But perhaps the bigger question is, do I want a model of the Toyota 86?:grinyes:

I want one! Would it be asking too much for a tuner version (TRD, etc.) from Aoshima or maybe even a Super GT300 version??

As for the new kit, I also hope they make the BRZ, then I'll probably get one of each for two different colors.

Incidentally, Aoshima appears to be preparing for its own Aventador, which is a good news for it will most likely be cheaper than the Fujimi's, but also a bad news for it could have been a completely different subject.

LOL... good one.. made of greed!!. .lol ..

Comparing the two aventador, one from Fujimi and the other one from Aoshima, what i see first is that the Aoshima made the engine hood workable, what is very good to show some engine details.. :)

Not sure if you guys are aware but, Aoshima opened a brand new channel to ask questions on Facebook, all questions i did posted there were answered very quickly, i'll ask about the BRZ and see what they said ..

Separate hood is no surprise, but the trunk lid is also separate (why no doors?!)

And inclusion of engine room reinforcement bars suggest only one thing, doesn't it?

It was deleted for a while, but it's back now. Due out June for 3800 yen, which is 400 yen more expensive than the curside 370Z kit, but the same price as the Aston DBS, so maybe the Toyota 86 kit will include yet another disappointing half engine?

Either way, I'll wait for Aoshima's detailed version, and probably buy both because comparison modeling is also fun.

Aoshima should renew the D1 license, so they can reissue some of the old D1 racers, as well as releasing the brand-new 86 HKS.

EDIT: Apparently, Tamiya will release the BRZ in July.

I thought they said they have no plan to renew the D1 license because the series is not that popular in Japan?

You can bet an itasha version or two is on their way, though. Or maybe if they have itasha racers in D1 like in Super GT.

That's kind of where I'm at. I'm not buying any of the 86 variants because I'm not really interested in building tuners anymore unless it pertains to my NISMO collection.

I have stacks of RX7's, Evo's, Integra's, Subaru's, Supra's etc. I'm not interested in that I bought during the tuner fad era.

If the GT300 version of the BRZ is kitted or other race versions I'd consider a purchase then.

Now Hobby Search is taking reservations for both the 86 (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10183395) and the BRZ (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10183934) from Tamiya, and stock (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10182967) and custom wheel (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10182968) 86 from Aoshima.

Even though HLJ is a bit cheaper than Hobby Search I absolutely HATE their (HLJ) reserve item shipping policy where they'll just ship off items as it gets released without bundling it (even though it might be a few days apart from each other). In-stock items are fine, but I learned my lesson not to deal with HLJ for reserve items. :headshake

Well, as it's written on 1999.co.jp Tamiya version of Toyota/Subaru siblings will have engine (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10183395).
And Aoshima kit is pretty detailed even with opening trunk hood. Maybe there will some after-market add-on for Aoshima kit with engine and some tuning stuff? That would be pretty straight-forward for a kit of beloved tuners car.

Aoshima released two curbside R35 GT-R kits for 2800 yen each in July 2008, and the detailed version with engine parts for 3200 yen in October of the same year. I think the 86 kit will follow the same marketing strategy.

I wonder what kind of variation they had in mind when they decided to make the trunk lid separate.

Is it just me but I think it's a totally bland looking coupe with non-original looks. I think the Nissan 350Z/370Z has already fullfilled everything that this is trying to acheive.

I could excited is some new rally car models models were released by the Japanese manufacturers but they seem do have discarded these totally.

They are in entirely different markets, and the Z costs 40% more than the 86.
I could excited is some new rally car models models were released by the Japanese manufacturers but they seem do have discarded these totally.
I don't think the Japanese manufacturers will bother with rally cars any time soon, the market simply is not there. It's more of a Euro thing, and several new European manufacturers have sprung up to cater for that market.

Glad to see Tamiya's insert depicting how low the engine is, but man, that's a pretty broad expanse of unadorned firewall behind it.

I'm absolutely with Dave in giving my overall vote of confidence to Tamiya, but a version with an engine looks inevitable from Aoshima, and I gotta wonder if they might not fill in the open spaces a bit more completely...
