This one looks really good. APM Ferrari 458 GT2 1/24th scale kit. I like APM better than Studio 27 and Hobby Design. They did a wonderful job on the 1/24th F50GT1.

I would buy it direct from APM, not Raccoon. Raccoon is a great shop but they charge slightly more for APM kits.

LOL...I read it now...when I am finishing the body of mine (wip very soon).
This version has the air vents on front bonnet, hope it would be possible build model without theme to finish it as the real racing ones.
They also missed the lower blade under the nose air intake, and the airvents for brakes are smaller as from presentation cars (I have to say something bad :D...damn it..LOL),as well as the position of the side mirror is wrong, surely only on the dispaly model temporary assembled.

The price is also much more sensible than what Hobby Design would charge.

That is true but it does look like the front panel is taped on in the picture. Maybe more than one version can be done?? We will have to wait and see.

I was checking the prices and it should be around $175.00 US.The cockpit and other parts were very good on the 1/24th F50GT1 so I have some faith in APM. I hope they do the wheels correctly. They did a good job on the F50GT1's wheels.

LOL Tom,I am getting mad to work on that part over mine.In these pics is taped, but all other cars have it.The same for the lower diffusor, different and with bigger holes over blade.
Again, mines are just modelling considerations.APM model looks stunning and at a very very good price for a resin kit.

suspect is the latest 2011 version, also little different in the shape and dimension of the "cubes" on the lower part of tail, near diffusor.

I tried to copy this one, even if seems a later modification to that part, done recently.
Now I just miss a slot company as Carrera Digital making it in plastic as the Porsche rsr slot body for few euros available on ebay...and I can quietly suicide.

In my APM kit there are resintires with resin wheels. Not bad, but the wheels are too small from their diameter for the resin tires, while the resintires are not round.
When I build the model, I put the wheels on a lathe to make them smaller and put the insert into alu rings in combination with rubber tires

Was there someone looking for APM's 599xx kit ? Cannot find that post any more, but I found this kit on sale on eBay by APM again.
Get it while it is available - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-24-APM-Ferrari-599XX-Resin-full-kit-/130672753851?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6cb3fcbb#ht_500wt_1180

I have this kit, but not started it yet. One weak point of it is tires. They are a joke in my kit. Concave in profile towards inside of the wheels.
I've got set from Tamiya FXX kit to replace them and FXX's tires fit OK onto APM's wheels. Another thing I don't like is that vertical aero fins
behind wheels arches are molded together with the body. They will be a pain to paint properly, I suspect. HD kit is better in this area, as
fins are molded on separate parts.

PS: APM is selling F50GT kits again also. Tempting ...

Tom, have you contacted APM recently?
Well, as soon as I saw this thread, I sent a message to APM through their website, and got an answer from apmodelco (at) gmail.com who says his name is Chow.
During the communication, I felt something strange going on, so, this time, I sent a message to APM's ebay account.
Guess what? The reply says "I believe you are in contact with a hacker."
I feel so much confused.

If anyone knows APM's valid contact number or email account, plz PM me.

I e-mailed him the other day since he quoted me a mid-to-late April release date and this is what he said: "they are coming out soon.... we are sorting the kits this moment."

Hopefully they'll be out real soon.

I was able to talk to Chow and APM is alive and well. He said no more orders would be taken on the 458 GT2 until after May 10th, the release date. Based on the pictures and other kits they did this should be a great kit. Studio 27 and Pattos Place both did several decals for this car already.

Rather than setting a 'release' sales date they took pre orders until all 50 were gone, plus you got a better price with pre order...but that point is moot now.

I just my kit in today. I have never owned any APM products prior to this so I can't say about past APM kits, nor am I aware of how absolutely accurate every little single detail is but I must say my initial response to the 458 GT2 kit is very positive.

The resin quality is actually quite good, the lines are crisp, the body isn't papery thin or excessively too thick, and even the resin flash has already been cleaned up. Granted like any resin kit it still needs work but companies like Hobby Design should definitely take note for their future products.

Additional noted things: metal rings for the wheel inserts, basic engine detail, basic photo-etch sheet, seat belt material, rear taillights in clear plastic.

Several gripes about the kit would be: resin tires, seat looks rather bland, acetate window/front headlight parts, and bare bones basic decal sheet.

Overall it seems like a good kit from initial inspection. I only wish APM would have continued making 1/12 transkits so they can make an FXX transkit for the newly released Tamiya Enzo. :grinyes::rofl:

I apologize for the quality of the pics. They were taken from my phone.

This kit really turned out nice. I have it and the casting and shape is top quality. For a curbside you could not ask for much more. The top of the motor and engine bay are also very well detailed. I do think they should shoot for a lower price, maybe $160.00-175.00 but otherwise almost a perfect 458 GT2 "test" version kit. APM will do more race versions soon.

Their pre order price for 599XX Evo is $210 and regular price is $280 which is also the price for the 458 GT2. That is way too high for their quality even though their kits are not bad. I would rate the 599XX kit a 7 out of 10 which might be generous considering the conical resin tires.

How are the wheels and tires in the 458 kit, Tom?

Sorry Rainer, no more F40 GTE wheels left.

The 458 GT2 tires are still hard resin but they do fit ok. That is one thing I would like changed to soft black resin. This is not a full detail kit, but it is a top quality curbside.

Got my kit yesterday and it is more impressive than the 599XX kit. The castings are better, cleaner, smoother. Granted this is an early kit pulled from the mold, my 599XX kit may have been pulled later after the mold got a bit worn.

I'm sure it will make a great looking model.
