1995 Nissan SE iddleing too high

Hi, hope someone can help. I've been getting back in shape a 1995 Nissan SE pickup, 6cyl, automatic transmission. The engine type is a VG30E. I've noticed the idle speed is running around 2200 rpms at idle and I think it should be around 900 rpms. I've cleaned the throttle body with carburator cleaner but that did no good. I was told it could be the "idle control valve". My question is...Before I go out and buy one of these expensive little turds, is there someway I can test to see if it IS the ICV that I need. I'm not the best mechanic in the world so please explain in lamen terms of what I can do at home to find the problem...Thanks in advance for ANY help...:smile:....Pete
