Have a new a/c compressor and drier/accumulator to install. The box the compressor came in says "THIS PART CONTAINS NO OIL."

I will be taking the car in to a shop to get the a/c charged after I replace those components. What do I need to do to ensure the pump isn't damaged from the time I install it until it gets to the shop (which is about 10 min away). Towing is not an option.

I know about the cans of oil that you put into the low end side of the a/c system, but there is no negative pressure, so not sure if that would work...

Any advice would be appreciated :)

The PAG oil goes into the cranckcase of the compressor on a V-5 compressor--the drain bolt is removed and oil is poured into compressor-prior to installation--oil is not added through the rear suction port like fixed displacement compressors. Go ahead and plug it in, it won't run until it is charged and sees 47 psi positive pressure.

But how much Pag oil?

If I remember correctly, you remove the bolt on the old compressor and drain the compressor from the bolt hole into a measuring cup....

If less than 2 oz is recovered, add 2 oz to the new compressor......if more tha 2 oz comes out, add the same ammount to the new compressor....you want to do this before putting the compressor back in the car....
