2002 LS V8 150k miles.
I would like to hear from someone who has changed, or has information pertaining to changing the oil pan gasket. I have either a bad oil plug, and/or a leaky gasket. If its a gasket i'll replace the plug too.
There is no oil on the sides of the block, so im pretty certain that its the gasket, hopefully not a cracked pan.
There are oil drips on my garage floor away from the plate that sits under the car so my leak is splashing back under the car and i can smell oil burning off the hot exhaust.
I keep my eye on the oil level and since my last oil change i've added a quart of oil twice. The computer is asking for an oil change now.
I would love to read the shop procedure if anybody has it. There is a self service garage in my area where you can rent a bay with a lift. I want to make sure that if i go over there and start this job im going to be ale to finish it, the same day.
Thanks in advance

It's very simple on the V8. You don't even have to move anything out of the way.
Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional
information, refer to Section 100-02.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Remove the oil pan.
• Inspect the gasket and install a new one if
necessary.
Installation
NOTE: Make sure all gasket sealing surfaces are clean
and dry.
1. Install the oil pan. Tighten the bolts in the
sequence shown in two stages.
• Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 Ib-in).
• Stage 2: Tighten to 12 Nm (9 Ib-ft).
2. Lower the vehicle.
3. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.

Wow, looks like the time consumer here is putting the 17 bolts back in. :)
Thanks for the information.

one more thing. do i have to have it on a lift? will everything clear if i do it in the garage on jack stands? That way i won't have to work on a hot car.

IMHO, jack stands will be enough. (It's a shallow pan.)
