1994 B150 cargo van 3.9 Elecrical problem

I replaced the alternater about a month ago in the van. I'm getting a intermittent buzz sound from a relay plug or switch that is mounted just to the right of the brake master cylander mounted on the frame. It has two black wires coming out of it with an orange and yellow wire going into the wiring harness. When its making this buzz sound you can actually feel it vibrating.
It has about five numbers on it and has the word portugal on it. I guess this is a sign of it going. Yet anyone know what this controlls? When I shut the engine off also this sound will continue for about 10-15 seconds. Doesn't seem to be effecting anything as of yet. Any Ideas? Thanks.

bluezuan, I'm not familiar with that relay or switch. Other than the buzzing did you notice any problems when it started making a noise? Maybe you could run the part number through your computer and see if anything pops up. Sorry I'm not more help. Best of luck.

No problems as of yet. Guess I have to take it off to get the part number or else unplug it and plug it in. Who knows maybe it just needs to be reset as far as the computer board goes. I was told by my mechanic that the voltage regulator is in the computer board and hoped it didn't burn that out when the alternator was going. I replaced the board about a year ago.

bluezuan, glad it's not causing any problems, I don't really understand why chrysler put the voltage regulator in the computer. Let us know if you find out what that relay does.

It can be easy to mistake dirty dark blue wires for black ones. So if you really have a red, yellow, and 2 dark blue wires, then that's the ASD relay.

Yet there is a problem somewhere. Thanks.

The ASD (Auto Shut Down) relay is the main power relay for the PCM, injectors, fuel pump, and ignition coil. It's buzzing because it's either failing, the PCM is failing, the fuel pump is failing, or there is a short in the wiring somewhere.

What does pcm stand for? And while this buzz is happening? If I got a code read out while its buzzing would it pinpoint the problem? I've had a couple of shorts in the wiring harness before.

What does pcm stand for?

PCM - Powertrain Control Module, also known as an ECM - Engine Control Module. Codes are always good for helping to diagnose problem. If you can get any, all the better.

ASD relay, used by the pcm to shut down the engine when it senses a serious problem.

Ok, stopped at my mechannic. Showed him the plug into relay. He said that this is coming off the alternater from the dio trio from the altanater and it keeps it from the battery getting overcharged. Yet he said the buzzing sound is normal Only been happening when its real cold out. Today it was 50 degrees and no buzz sound. So I told him I'll take his word, twice and looked him in the eye. Know what I mean?

Peace

bluezuan, that's good to know, learned something new today.
