miata ecm not responding

2004 madzaspeed mx-5 miata is not responding when i try to program an extra keeless remote,,,will not acknoledge communication to start the programming,,,,any ideas will greatly be appreciated

If I were you I will hire and independent locksmith and stay away from the dealer, this is an area where most dealers venture outside reaching out to independent locksmiths as they have no technicians specialized in auto security so what most mayor dealers do is call a guy and up-charge you I've seen this taking place more than ones at different dealer locations.

my thoughts ditto ;;;;;another thought on my problem,,,i had a couple keys made at walmart that they said my original key had no chip===i checked the keys for fit and function,,all good ,,did not run the engine,,,later on i started the engine and be hold the immobiliser system kicked in and shut me down==didn't catch on at first and started to attact the fuel system and changed the fuel filter but stopped before moving on to a pump,,,checked for fire at the sparkplug wire and no fire===scared problem could be big and researched my actions and thought of the keys===put the original key in and purred like new money===now ,did i have the incompatible keys in when i tried to program the extra remote,,don't remember,,will try again with the true key and re post the results soon,,got fingers crossed===Thanks MX5 Guy,,,i couldn't agree with you more and thanks for the reply.....
