Hi i am phil i want to build my own Ford 400 Cid the only problem is every 400 is now branded Chevrolet or Pontiac Ford has there own 400 and yes its a rare engine block can i use a Chevrolet 400 engine block and make it into Ford based engine?

What are the difference between the two of these engines.

The Ford 400 c.i. and the Chevy 400 c.i. are two totally different engines from two competitors in the automotive world . There is no similarities or interchangeable parts between the two . You may be able to find a Ford 400 in the salvage yards or from sources such as Craigslist or on www.racingjunk.com .Good luck !

The Ford 400 engine had little performance support because it's been out of production for 30+ years, and it never was put in a performance chassis, so there's little interest.

You are much better off building a 351 Windsor engine. It has far more performace parts and support available for it. You can easily build a 351 that will out-power any Ford 400.

Alternately you could build a Ford 460.
