It has a twin-spark NAP-Z engine. A few manufacturers made twin-spark engines, Nissan was not alone in this type of design.

the twin spark plug per cylinder is for giving less emitions , it creates a leaner burn and slightly better bhp.

a guy at my job has an 85 to 88 nissan pick up not sure of the year but somewhere in there it has 2 spark plugs per cylinder. he also has 230,000 miles on the orginal engine. he clams oil changes, tune up, and tires is all that he has done to it. oh and a new e-brake cable and dash light. and since its a nissan i do believe he is telling the truth. body is even near perfect no rust or dents.
