I'm about to buy a used 4-door 1998 Integra LS. Everything about the car is basically what I'm looking for except for the color. It's the Citrus Silver color, which is silver with a very slight hint of green.

There are two scratches on the car that the seller is willing to have professionally detailed. Estimate on fixing the two scratches is about $450. The scratches are not too deep, but they do penetrated through the paint. They aren't just light surface scratches.

My first question is... Would it make sense for me to just get a new paint job done on the car? I'm assuming that, in getting a new paint job, the old paint will be sanded off and will take care of the two scratches. Plus, since I'm not crazy about the Citrus Silver, I could get a better color too.

My second question is about price... The car only has 43,000 miles on it, so I anticipate keeping it for awhile. How much should I spend on a new paint job? I know that the $300 paint jobs out there are worthless, but will an $800 job last?

For me, if I can get a good paint job done for $800, I'd rather have the seller split the cost, rather than paying for the detailing.

Thanks for any suggestions. Any recommendations for good, trustworthy body shops in Chicago would also be appreciated. Thanks!
