Is Cars really becoming Commodity?

With the current scenario cars are really becoming a status sign and it seems to be not less than commodity? Will it become a commodity one day?

I think people buy cars for different purposes like some high class people choose royal class cars to maintain their status and some ordinary people take cars to fulfil their needs. In society, many people take cars to show their royalty.
