EDIT - Apparently Jalopnik liked my video too! A buddy emailed me yesterday at 5pm asking i this was me. I never gave them permission to use my video, but who cares! They liked it enough they wote a story on it and featured it!

------------------
Went to Road Atlanta a couple weekends ago to race with NASA Southeast in their annual Santa's Toy Run. Since nobody was racing PTA, the class my car is prepped for, I stepped up to race ST2 (Super Touring 2) so I had a shot at winning some contingency tires. ST2 allows the same power to weight ratio as PTA but with open modding on the car vs. limited modding on mine.

Saturday's Thunder race was the most fun I've had on track in my entire life. Michael Smith (black/orange C5 Z06, ex T1 car) and I are duking it out for 3rd place here. Stinks it had to end with a crash for Michael... that was tough to watch unfold; shook me up a bit.

PS: Yes... I do yell at my car to go faster at times and I may or may not have said, "I want my tire Bitch" in the esses at one point.

After the red flag we had 2 green laps... Kevin Clifford (black FD RX-7) and I fighting for the 3rd place tire. He catches me sleeping through T1 letting an out of class car get by me and rockets around the outside. I caught back up by turn 10A, but had no way to attempt any kind of pass; finished 4th. All the other Mustangs and Camaros etc. are in a different class and not racing against me directly.

I ended up finishing 2nd in the race on Sunday so that scored me a tire, but the video isn't nearly as exciting as Saturday's race.

PS - The camera shake is from a vibration I was fighting all weekend. All my racing buddies tell me they never balance their race tires. Well the one weekend I don't balance my tires I get a nasty vibration. Won't do that again.

Looks like a great time aside from Michael's demise. I'm guessing he's OK? Talking to the car, lol, that's funny. I thought I was the only one.

He's fine... car is a bit bent up but fixable. He's already started fixing it.

Thank you Thank you!!!!

I guess I need to get my butt up to Atlanta and put up or shut up!!! Maybe 2012 I'll make the trip? Possibly moving my family to New England next summer so that might mess with the racing schedule. Just listed the house so who knows.

The camera shake is from a vibration I was fighting all weekend. All my racing buddies tell me they never balance their race tires (http://motors.shop.ebay.com/eBay-Motors-/6000/i.html?_nkw=tires&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_rdc=1). Well the one weekend I don't balance my tires (http://motors.shop.ebay.com/eBay-Motors-/6000/i.html?_nkw=tires&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_rdc=1) I get a nasty vibration. Won't do that again

We always balance the tires and secure the weights with chrome tape. The problem is its easy to throw the weights and with slicks we often see the tires moving on the rim with very hard braking. We mark the tires with the valve stem location to monitor the tire creep on the rims (CCW 18" wheels and Hoosier slicks). Haven't found a way to prevent this and often rebalance the tires a few times during their "life cycle".... tire shop at the track that sells us the tires does this for free. Just an FYI.

Cold slicks pick up lots of crap and can be pretty "shaky" until they heat up and shed the clag.
