2000 Camry Door Squeaklyonkster 11-16-2011, 09:16 AM I just bought a 2000 Camry, and both front doors have a loud squeak when opening or closing. I can't tell if it's coming from the hinges or the black rod that slides in and out of the door when it is opened. I am planning to investigate it this weekend, but if someone knows the solution, that would save me the hassle :). I noticed the same squeak on almost all the other Camries I test drove, so this seems like a common problem. Thanks, Leon jdmccright 11-16-2011, 09:41 AM Yes, it is a common problem. They haven't changed the basic design for this part for over a decade...my '92 did it too. Your best bet is to spray the top and bottom sides of the rod with a lithium grease and work it into the door mechanism. If you get a can with a straw tip, use that to squirt some deep inside. Hope this helps! lyonkster 11-16-2011, 09:45 AM Yes, it is a common problem. They haven't changed the basic design for this part for over a decade...my '92 did it too. Hope this helps! Thanks for the quick response! I suspected it was the rod, so I'll give it some grease and see if that fixes it. Thanks a bunch! Jerry80871852 11-17-2011, 08:39 AM I recently bought a 2001 Camry, both of the front doors has a squeak in them. I found it to be the outer edge of the door not far from the rearview mirrors, rubs against the rubber door seal, gasket, as I open & close the doors. lyonkster 11-17-2011, 11:29 AM I recently bought a 2001 Camry, both of the front doors has a squeak in them. How did you fix the rubbing? Jerry80871852 11-17-2011, 03:43 PM There's no way to fix it outside of cutting off or bending the edge of the door & or trimming the door seal. lyonkster 11-17-2011, 03:49 PM There's no way to fix it outside of cutting off or bending the edge of the door & or trimming the door seal. Oh, so yours still squeaks? I wonder if spraying some silicone on the seal might help (temporarily at least)... Jerry80871852 11-17-2011, 06:43 PM Probably, On this one it looks like its been doing this since it was new. I used white grease in the spray can on the door hinges trying to stop the squeak, yet I kept having a squeak. I kept opening & closing the door finally finding what the squeak was. lyonkster 11-18-2011, 06:09 PM I found it to be the outer edge of the door not far from the rearview mirrors, rubs against the rubber door seal, gasket, as I open & close the doors. Jerry, you were absolutely right, this is exactly the source of my squeak. I could easily see where the door corner rubs against the weatherstrip when the door is opened or closed. There is some wear on the weatherstrip, and on one side the door corner has the paint actually worn off :(. This is so unlike Toyota, I am surprised they screwed this one up. I burnished some silicone spray onto the weatherstrip, and the noise is gone, for now. We'll see how long it stays quiet. Thanks for the tip! Jerry80871852 11-19-2011, 10:58 AM Your welcome. I suppose that was a fault on all Camry of this generation. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
