2000 GT Oil Leak

I just bought a 2000 Eclipse 3.0 automatic and the underside of the engine was caked with old dirty oil so after an engine bath I was able to try to find the culprit. It is leaking oil from the right front side of the engine bad enough that within minutes it’s dripping oil onto my face…that sucks. Well I can’t seem to get my fat head up in between the motor and firewall to see exactly where it’s coming from but here’s my best guess.

1. Valve cover
2. Head gasket

With your guys experience what do you think it is?
Will a head gasket leak oil externally?
Hoping it’s just the valve cover gasket.

It's quite possible it could be the head gasket, but I would start with the valve cover gasket as this was a common issue even in the older Eclipses. Another cause of this would be that people would crank down the bolts on the valve cover and would actually crack their valve covers on the backside... While you have the valve cover off to replace the gasket I would examine it closely for hairline cracks anywhere. If you don't see any then I would give that gasket a go and see if that cleans up your problem.
