Hi all, I'm hearing a wheel bearing "whine" now after 125K on my salvaged Corolla. How do I replace the front wheel bearings on a 2004 1.8L Corolla. Any special tools required. The sealed bearing cost $40-$60 each.
Any help appreciated :-)

Those are pressed in to the hub, so you'd be best to remove the hub assembly and have the new bearings replaced at a shop with a press.

The CV shafts have a retaining nut that is staked instead of having a cotter pin, so you'll have to bend or remove that part to be able to unscrew it from the shaft end. You'll also need to buy two new nuts from Toyota and a 30mm 12-point socket.

I just finished replacing the wheel bearings on my car. I had never done it before but it was fairly easy. I looked for awhile online for a great set of instructions and these were the best I could find. I hope they help and there were a few tools that I needed to borrow from a friend of mine.
