2009 Dodge Challenger R/T

I will start a new project after the 1/6 BMW motorcycle.

It's the Revell 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T premium kit. I wanted this kit for a long time because the AMT kit is useless and to simplified. This one contains a lot of parts and looks much better.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%281%29_%28Custom%29~7.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%282%29_%28Custom%29~7.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%283%29_%28Custom%29~7.JPG

The body looks very good. A few moldlines, but I don't care about them. Just a little sanding is needed. The bumpers and hood are separate parts. The rearbumper doesn't fit well. The corners are not straight so I need to bend them a bit more to fitt perfectly.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%284%29_%28Custom%29~8.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%285%29_%28Custom%29~8.JPG

The kit contains two sets of wheels. I like the original 5 spoke wheels very much but not in chrome. But the biggest thing that I hate are the tyres. There is no upscript on it and the sides are too big. Which results in a not so cool standing....

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%287%29_%28Custom%29~8.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%288%29_%28Custom%29~6.JPG

So I searched for other wheels and found these Aoshima Professor SSR wheels. They're 2 piece wheels with a separate chrome lip. I think they look cool with a black center. But I found to much problems fitting them I still go for the original wheels in silver paint. Just because I'll make the other Challenger in stock version and this would look cool in stock beside it I think. But we'll see.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%2810%29_%28Custom%29~5.JPG

And for some extra detail I purchased this nice Geronimo Works PE set. It contains all necesarry parts I need and they all look very nice. The instructions seems to be clear and usefull also.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_%2813%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

And there is just one color for this car. Hemi Orange :D I'll use the carbon decals for the hood and I think that look cool.

First update:

I started to cut the chassis to fit the new wheels. I removed the upper parts in front and the bended curves on the rear. After this I painted it black.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_%281%29_%28Custom%29~5.JPG

The exhausts are painted with different Metalizer paints from Modelmaster and buffed after drying.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_%282%29_%28Custom%29~5.JPG

The radiator and ventilators are PE parts and painted black.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_%283%29_%28Custom%29~4.JPG

The new Hemi engine is silver, but I thought it was orange. Google was my friend to find it out. I painted it with metallic silver by Modelmaster. The valvecovers are painted black and received some PE badges.
The intake manifold is painted chrome silver by Modelmaster.

I'll first start to build the chassis. And I hope to paint the body this week also.

New update.

I sanded the body and scribed out the panellines. I added some primer and painted it Hemi Orange.

The chrome on the wheels are removed and I painted it gloss black and Hemi Orange. I need to clearcoat them though.

I got the wheel idea from this Eibach showcar.

New update:

First I installed the engine on the chassis:

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/Clear_%281%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/Clear_%282%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Now some more interesting updates.

I clearcoated the body and part with 2k Zero Paints. It was very smooth so I only had to add some wax on it afterwards. The roof got a little dust so I needed to polish that away.

After the waxing I masked of the whole body and leaved the parts which needed some Semi Gloss Black paint naked. Now I could paint some black.

The result is very smooth. I didn't need any touch up.

The wheels are also clearcoated. The rear wheels have a wider lip.

Looking very nice! What paint did you use to paint the bolts on the wheels?

iceracer1
11-04-2011, 11:57 AM
Got a bit further....

First I added some interiorflocking on the floor.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%281%29_%28Custom%29~4.JPG

The seats are painted with Revell Matt 9 enamel paint. The orange trim are decals.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%282%29_%28Custom%29~4.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%283%29_%28Custom%29~4.JPG

With some seatbelt material I made a few seatbelts.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%287%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%288%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

The dashboard is also done. The pedals and logo on the steeringwheel are PE parts.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%289%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%2810%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%2815%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

The rearbumper got his rearlight. And the body got his windows.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_%286%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

Now I have to go further with the chassis. I need the wheels in place to get finish it.

New update.

I finished the brakes.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%281%29_%28Custom%29~3.JPG

Also painted some details in the enginebay.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%282%29_%28Custom%29~3.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%283%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

And fitted the frontbumper.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%285%29_%28Custom%29~2.JPG

Finished the chassis and wheatered it a bit.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%287%29_%28Custom%29~1.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%289%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

And placed the PE exhaust tips.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%2810%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

And I put the chassis on the body. It was really tight and some things broke, but I glued it all in place again.

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%2811%29_%28Custom%29~0.JPG

http://www.modelbrouwers.nl/albums/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/chassis_af_%2812%29_%28Custom%29.JPG

Meanwhile it's finished, but I'd not time for shooting some final pics.

Fantastic job. Will serve as inspiration for my future build for sure.

btw.not sure about the colour but before seeing yours I was thinking about this one, also from a major spring manufacturer H&R instead of Eibach :p

Nice and precise model kit. Impressive knowledge in building it. Killer wheels!

Zero Paints says that their paints are airbrush ready. May I ask you what the consistency of their paint is like? Is it like whole milk or a little bit more?

If for some reason you want to strip the chrome paint off the second set of wheels, to paint them afterwards, leave them for 24 hours in all purpose cleaner. Alternatively, leave them for a few minutes in the bleach, but they will not turn out so well.

The Zero Paints is like milk yes, I never thinned it cause it sprays just good right from the bottle....

I put the chrome parts normally in Oven Cleaner for a couple hours and they are clean and ready to paint :)

What is you mix-ratio for the 2K zero clear and what pressure do you spray with?

Nice looking model.

What is you mix-ratio for the 2K zero clear and what pressure do you spray with?

Thanx

I just use the common mix ratio but I use a lot more thinner to make it like water thicness. It sprays much better and isn't too thick and shines very nice. I use an 0.4 nozzle and needle with a pressure off 2.3 bar.
