Im considering buying a 2003 Town and Country 3.3L, appears well maintained with 60k miles. Its in good condition, but the red brake light comes on while driving, every so often, stays on a couple minutes then goes out. Van stops like new, no sign of weakness or pulling with or without brake light on. Brake fluid is up the brake pads look ok also, jogging the emergency brake lever doesnt seem it change the condition. The yellow ABS light doesnt come on. Any ideas or is this a pesky possibly unsolvable problem.

IF the brake warning light is coming on and there are no mechanical failures detected after a COMPLETE inspection, then I'd focus on the parking brake switch. It could be failing or the parking brake level may not be in the fully released position causing the switch to activate the light.

check the level of your brake fluid in the master cylinder

Thanks for the help, I think I will take a second look at the van. I was worried it was a design defect or some kind of short somewhere.

Another problem could be the stop lights switch (works off of the brake pedal) and if the plunger is sticking, then when you brake and then come off of the brake, the plunger may not be responding quickly, but dragging on its way to the off position. I have replaced this part on several cars including my 1996 Caravan.

That would not cause the brake warning light to come on which is the light the OP is complaining about.
