Are they still making DeLoreans? I've never seen anymore outside of the one in the Back To The Future Trilogy(which I believe is an '84 or an '85) in any case it was a cool little car, wasen't it's stop speed 90 MPH?

Deloreans (model name was DMC12, but nobody calls it that) were produced from 1981-1983, at which point the company went bankrupt (to keep the story short :)). The DMC12's top speed was 125 mph.

There are rumours of a couple new cars being developed, but nothing is confirmed, and no DMC cars have been made since 1983.

The closest thing to a "new" DMC12 is one that has been reconditioned by Delorean.com or deloreanone.com :bigthumb:

Those vehicles are better than new, and come with a warranty:eek:

Mr. Delorean liked coke ::saw the E True Hollywood story:: I had figured they may have made them up to 1985 and possibly '86, I had no idea they stopped so early. That sucks

The word I heard, is that GM, Ford and Chrysler, made sure that the original dies for the body panels , engine castings, were destroyed by having them dumped in the North Atlantic. They wanted to make sure there was no ressurection of the competition. BTW there is also a conspiracy theory that the big three set Delorean up.

From personal experience, it goes faster than that. I went 130mph in 4th gear (very tall gears). I ran out of road before I could go faster. I had the 160mph speedo too. Pretty cool.

Cool  I have the 85 mph speedo. My friend paced me with a walkie talkie & said I reached 140 one time while racing a well-modded VW.

Being built in the early 80's the speedo only went up to 58 (due to US regulations), but they had the ability to do much faster (and many people broke their speedometers). The car was originally intended to have a 140MPH speedo:

Most people that replace theirs go with the readily available 160 MPH one.

There was some talk around 2000 about a new DeLorean, but it appears that has gone the way of the 1985 replacement that deLorean was working on at one point in time, www.deloreantime.com used to have information on his new cars, but that website is now defunct. has some more information on the car that might have been.the DMC2 (http://entermyworld.com/dmc2/index.html)
