I would like to work on my 2002 malibu. I need help to disable the radio lock out? I know there is a number of buttons you push on the radio but dose any one know the sequence to disable the lock out?

The manual dose not give me any ideas for doing this.

I'm not sure that the instructions JAW9 gives on this form will work for my 2002 malibu.

Not sure about this, but I think from 2000 and up, you need a scan tool.....you can't do it manually anymore.....

What kind of work are you doing? If you just want to remove then reinstall the same radio in the the same vehicle, it will not lock up because the VIN# is stored in the appropriate modules.

techII is right, a scanner must be used on this one to unlock it.

Thanks to both gmtech1 and techII for your response!! I will look to buy a scan tool if there not to expensive. Would you guys have any suggestions for getting a reasonably good one and do the parts stores have them?

The only scanner I'm aware of that will do this is GM's TECH2. It'll run you about 2500.00. Like I said before, if you just unplug the radio and plug it back in, it'll be ok.

Just be careful with this, some cars with completely lock you out because of security issues.
