Idling in drive...

I just got my 96' 240sx SE, and I've been driving it around when I idle in drive sometimes, like when I just put it into drive or stop at a light, sometimes it seems like the engine floods or something, because it'll dip back and forth between really low RPMs and like 800(whatever it is at idle) and one time even just shut off. Any answers? Thanks

it might be your mas air flow sencor..

i had a similar problem with my dads sable.. i know its two different cars but it may be that or your throttle position sencor..

ok, Thanks. Just pissed because I just got it yesterday and it started acting up. That's the last time I go to a used car dealership. They're so damn sneaky... Oh well... Yeah, I'm getting it checked out monday, hopefully that's the only prob... Thanks again

yea you should be able to fix any idling prob... make sure the intake is all connected right with no leaks. if everything looks good you're gonna have to take apart the intake to get to the maf sensor then clean and polish it up then reconnect. a lil work but that should take car of the eratic idle..

What does the MAF sensor look like and how would I go about cleaning it?

the thing to the left of the intake shown here

its that circular thing about 4 inches long. take that out and polish the inside.

you dont polish the inside, goof.. you clean the actual sensor.. which is very fragile and on s14 i dont think you can access it. You can only spray it with carb cleaner or something like that.. you have to be careful.

Hmm, I might just take it to the shop, I don't want to mess anything up too bad, and how you put it, sounds like it can get complicated. Thanks for everything tho.
