Catalytic Convertor Covered under Warranty?flewellen1 08-10-2011, 11:53 AM I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. With 79,950 miles on it, the check engine light came on while on vacation. Took it into a shop and they charged about $100 to diagnose it as a P0420 bad Cat. Con. code. Drove through vacation week and then the light went off. I now have 82,000 miles on and the light came back on with same code. If I take it into a shop with original paperwork showing bad cat. conv. before 80,000 miles will this be covered under warranty? danielsatur 08-10-2011, 02:05 PM Federal warrenty is 8-year/80K miles on OEM Cats. $100 is way too much for a test, the P0420 already tells me that the cat is bad. Do a Google ''Youtube Auto catalytic converter test'' , or a local muffler shop will do it for free. inafogg 08-10-2011, 05:20 PM I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. The dealership will probably take $150 for the install. tempfixit 08-12-2011, 05:32 PM Yes it could be your cat but with the light going off and driving the amount you did I would look at how well the precat 02 sensor is working. I had the same problem on a windstar and watched the sensor and found it to be lazy, changed it and have not had a problem in over 5,000 miles. danielsatur 08-12-2011, 05:49 PM A back stream HO2 sensor simulator could also resolve this problem. b1lk1 08-13-2011, 08:20 PM I cannot imagine any dealer putting that through warranty willingly. You needed to have it in a dealership before 80K to get warranty coverage, plain and simple. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
