2002 Grand Caravan stuck in first

Hi there. My caravan is stuck in 1st gear but goes in reverse with no problem, error code P0700 comes up on the odo. I've read that this code is just to let you know to check another code for which I do not have a scanner for. Fluid level is fine and it has never ran low in the past. I figured since it's Sunday and my shop is closed I would post on here to see if anyone has some insight as to what this could be. Concerned that I might need a new tranny. Thanks in advance!

Seems like you're in "Limp Mode." Probably something as simple as a corroded splice or connector not making good contact. Could also be a coil pack issue. Most likely an electrical problem, but it does not sound like a mechanical problem.

Thank you so much for your response, I feel a little better now. Is there anything I can check on my own like for the corrosion or bad contact? Not sure really where to look. I really appreciate your help.

My brother just had this problem with his 2000 concord would not shift & speedo stopped working. Their are 2 sensors on the tranney input & output, I believe he changed the input sensor. It is simple to change, unplug & remove with socket (around 1-1/4 in size). Look up the parts on OReilly (murrys) auto parts web site or auto zone.

The first thing you should do is have a tranny shop scan the codes, that will lead you to the problem. For example, if it is a sensor code, then either the sensor itself is bad or that circuit is bad. I still suspect it's not a big tranny overhaul problem, though. If the tranny shop tells you that, I would go elsewhere and get a second opinion.

Thanks guys! You both gave me some good info. I feel more prepared now for when I go to the shop tomorrow. I definitely will take it elsewhere if they say it's the tranny. Will post the diagnosis on here when I find out. Thanks again!

Just got in from the shop. The guy I usually go to did a scan and the results were possible 2-4 solenoid control circuit shorted to ground and also shorted to voltage. So he sent me to a transmission shop up the road. They will need car for half day to do more testing bc it could be the solenoid but it could also be the wiring or the TCM. He is hoping tomorrow to be able to pinpoint it more but did order a solenoid today to have it on hand in case that is the issue. The concerning thing is he said that there is still a chance that putting in a new solenoid will not solve the problem. So I would still have to pay for it because it can't be returned once installed and then also pay for either the wiring or the TCM. Hopefully he will be able to pinpoint it better tomorrow, I really don't want to pay for something I don't need. Just wanted to update.
