Fujimi SLS - what's in the box

Hi, all

Perhaps a small review of the box contents of the newest Fujimi car kit might be of interest for some, so here goes.

The box

Box contents

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0525_resize.jpg

Interior tub. Much simpler than the Revell offering

Dash and seats

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0530_resize.jpg

Meshes and stuff. Most of these won't be used because the kit has PE parts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0529_resize.jpg

Some more parts

Clear sprue. The big difference to the Revell kit is the way the windows are installed (from the outside vs. from the inside) and here Revell's offering is better once again.

The body

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0535_resize.jpg

And compared to Revell

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0537_resize.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0538_resize.jpg

I did not find any major differences, in all honesty, apart from the obvious difference in the design, but I have not studied the real car to know if the bodies are accurate. Revell's plastic is, as usual, much thicker. As you probably know, the Fujimi kit can be built OOB with the rear wing extended. Revell give the fuel tank cap as a separate part (good thing!) while the detail on the Fujimi body are crisp yet quite fine and hard not to lose with the prep work and painting.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0542_resize.jpg

Wheels. Here, for once, the two manufacturers went for different designs of the wheels and these are the main reason why I bought the Fujimi kit - I very much prefer the look of these

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0544_resize.jpg

Look good!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0546_resize.jpg

Tyres. No markings on the sidewalls but I have a feeling these will look better than the combination of the Revell wheels and tyres.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0556_resize.jpg

Brakes

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0547_resize.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0560_resize.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0548_resize.jpg

The Fujimi offering is noticeably more detailed and probably accurate, the brake rotors look absolutely fantastic. The hubs look much better in the Fujimi kit. Here's the Revell on for comparison. It's not bad but it's nowhere near as good as Fujimi.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0572_resize.jpg

Comparison of the underside. Fujimi:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0559_resize.jpg

Revell:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0570_resize.jpg

Just like with their respective 458 kits, there are differences, and the Fujimi one is actually much more detailed and in all likelyhood accurate. On the other hand, the amount of masking required to airbrush the Fujimi chassis makes me want to cry, and the Revell one will be a breeze to build in comparisson.

Decals

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0563_resize.jpg

Here Revell, as usual, has the upper hand both in terms of what's included and also the quality (excess film, thickness, etc).

PE parts.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0566_resize.jpg

It's a really simple set but in my opinion everything that you actually need is included. Who needs brake faces with the plastic brakes that Fujimi gave us here?

PE instructions.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/Fujimi_SLS/IMG_0568_resize.jpg

So then, overall I think I'll build this before the Revell kit, mostly because of the warping issues that every single Revell kit seems to have. Fujimi made a great move when they released the 458 Italia kit with the PE parts that it rather needed at a lower price than the original kit, so I'm happy with this direction. Just like with the 458 kit, IMO, the main difference is that Fujimi gives you better stuff to build the model OOB - it's much less detailed where you don't see much but more detailed and accurate in the visible areas. On the other hand, the gull wing doors are such a characteristic feature of this car that, for once, I welcome openning doors on a kit. Hopefully I'll find the time and the motivation to build both of them.

Thanks mucho for the the comparo/review, Alix!

My Fujimi SLS has shipped....and while I think Revell's is a beautiful model...I'm not one that likes to fiddle with opening doors, or even building engines these days...or detail painting chassis.

If the Fujimi builds out at least 9/10 of the Revell I'll be happy and have a quicker build too.

Thanks for the review. I think i might get both eventually. Its always nice to build something curbside and quick. One thing that is nice about the fujimi is it comes with PE.

Although i still think i will get the revell one before the Fujimi one.

Thanks for the review and photos!

I'll stick with the Revell. I don't like the race seats in the Fujiimi kit and those are my least favorite wheels!

It's nice, though, that Fujimi provided (KA) photoetch for the price. It's just that the Revell, despite the wheels/brakes/tires, has more detail and their new kits build up very nicely.

That's why I got both kit - neither of them is anywhere near perfect.

Revell do give more (quantity-wise) detail but there are so many inaccuracies and simplifications it's ridiculous.

Fujimi is simpler in essence, but whatever they give it's usually crisper, more detailed and accurate than Revell. Look at wheel hubs and suspension arms, for example. This time Fujimi actually included shocks/springs in the kit, which is a change from most of their latest Ferrari kits.

I have no idea which one to deem better, even for myself.

WTF Fujimi! Why go back to shitty interior construction:/ Thanks for the review!

I do admire the crispness of Fujimi's parts, and I'm sure it'll make for a quicker build.

That said, the photoetch and possibly the wheels are going to my Revell kit. :smokin:

Thanks for the review. But i must say that the revell is in my opinion the better kit. For one simple reason. It has the Gullwing doors. The parts of the fujimi maybe looks thinner, but when you can make a Gullwing, you go for that.

Great review Ales !!.. i think that you can get parts of both and build one more accurate car, but the question is .. does it worth? not sure. I have a friend here in Brazil who built a F430 using two cars, a Revell, cause it have the engine more accurate and a Fujimi, i must say that it became a great model, but also it gave more work than the results could show.

Thank you for the review.. if i had to choose i would go for Fujimi's SLS

Thanks a lot. This thread perfect for me because I am hesitating whether I should by the fujimi SLS AFTER I have owned revell+PE.

I decide to save my money for other models! Thanks!

Thanks for the review Alex~ I'd rather eat my shoes than paint that Fujimi chassis, why????
