Must I get a car alarm for my 2010 Corolla?

I have a 2010 Corolla. I'm not sure if a car alarm is needed. It would cost me $300-500 to get it done.
I read the owner's manual. It mentions about this anti-theft feature called "Engine Immobilizer System". It says the vehicle's keys have built-in transponder chips that prevent the engine from starting if key has not been previously registered in the vehicle's on-board system.
Does that mean people can't steal my car?

Can they steal it? possibly? can they start it? not likely. The immobilizer shuts off fuel and disables the starter relay.
So if they really want your car they'll just carjack you instead. The Corolla is a nice car, but personally I can think of better cars to steal for that much effort.
Factory or dealer-installed alarms can bump the resale value and lower your insurance costs in some areas prone to vehicle theft. So can aftermarket ones, but they are more prone to having problems. You being in Hawaii, I can't see that as a hotbed for theft unless somehow they like to ship them out for parts in chop shops. If you're in a home with a garage, I'd say no. If in an apartment with street parking, I'd say yes.
