I would be eternally grateful if someone would be kind enough to go through and identify each car. I can only speak for myself, but I would really like it if everyone would do that when posting pics. Organizing and searching the forums for these images would be so much easier as a result.

Either way, tak43, thank you very much for these amazing shots from the archives!

#12R (?)

16R actually. 12R wore a Gulf livery that day, but you know that. :)

So, #27R was orange for many years ? Is it his original livery ?

No - the orange livery did not appear on the car until it was acquired by James Munroe and completed in the British GT series in 1999. This was the car's original livery:

http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/41512/2799213740048036277S600x600Q85.jpg

Then after Le Mans 1997 at some point it was redone in Yellow/Blue Parabolica livery we see it wearing today.

tak43 - this is exactly the kind of content I live for when it comes to the F1. Period photos are really my favorite so thank you for the time and effort taken to share them with us. :)

27R,s first race was Ferrari yellow/blue,

It was also yellow/graphite grey at one point.

I saw it as above Silverstone 97.

Very much thank you tak43 to share these originals! They're the reason to keep coming back again and again to this forum! Keep the good stuff coming!

I think these are the correct infos for the pictures shown:

First set

03R BPR 1996 Silverstone

06R FIA GT 1997 Silverstone
23R FIA GT 1997 Silverstone
27R FIA GT 1997 Silverstone
06R BPR 1996 Silverstone

And what comes to 27R original livery it was the blue/yellow Parabolica as it won the opening round of Privilege GT Championship 6th April 1997 as pictured here:

http://thumbnails45.imagebam.com/13921/34a375139201357.jpg (http://www.imagebam.com/image/34a375139201357)

BGTC (http://www.racingsportscars.com/championship/British%20GT.html) Silverstone 1997 (http://www.racingsportscars.com/results/Silverstone-1997-04-06-4017.html)

27R was on loan for the Team GOH (LARK) for the Le Mans 1997 and due that was already painted in the LARK livery before the FIA GT 1997 Silverstone round on May 11th. It needed then only the special LARK decals to be added for the Le Mans about a month later (11th-15th June). It raced again in FIA GT round 4 in Nurburgring 29th June again in half Parabolica, half LARK livery. This time the pink portions were back in yellow, but the grey portions of the LARK-livery were still visible.

Thanks for the correction.

I guess the confusing part is that I was pretty sure Silverstone 1997 was its first race. In a way that is true, but it was the Silverstone round of the British GT series that was its first race, where like you've said it was Yellow/Blue. Then it came back to Silverstone for the FIA GT event with the change to above for some reason?

The Yellow/Gray combo you mention appeared at the Nurburgring:

So what is the 3rd one poking out back there, any idea? Based on color I'm thinking #023?

From the other pics I have seen of this display it is difficult to be conclusive. Besides the two chassis numbers which have already been mentioned, XP5 was definitely there, as was #003. I would, however, rule out #023 because it was built towards the end of 1994 and its first owner was in Japan. If I had to guess - I'd think #024 might be the most likely possibility for that mystery F1 given that it was a UK car and has been seen in other McLaren displays.

I don't find the thread about roll cages changes ? Can you help me ?

THAT is why I love this site - great pics bought out of hiding, especially the ones above. This shot captures the curves of the GTR Longtail beautifully! :)

You list this GTR as 08R Gulf 96 spare car, may I correct you, its 02R in 96 Gulf presentation livery. I think the pic is from the Autosport show, Tak43 will be able to confirm .

A while back, Greg posted an article from Racetech magazine, with plenty of pics of 02R in the presentation livery (another one for the model collectors)

Today, it is still in the same blue (if my info is correct)and is the reason for the base colour being carried over when Jake Urlich ran the car in the 96 British GT,s.

08R was used by BMW Motorsport for the two different Fina liveries, your goodself posted up an article showing the USA spec scheme. Something I myself had not seen previously

Thanks for finally correcting that error of mine.

There has been a few of those images in my archives stating it as Gulf'96 spare car 08R and I can't follow where those have come from as during the years I've saved the images either with their original names or by giving a new name that describes it according to the context it has been shown. One of them showing it on a test or presentation drive (tagged as Brands Hatch) and another on a Gulf advert for their 1996 merchandise. After some consideration it makes more sense it couldn't have been 08R as e.g. during BPR'96 Silverstone race (mid-May), it was most likely still by the BMW for those livery and other tests as on the other hand the BRDC GT started only at the end of may 1996 at Silverstone for 02R.
