has anyone used a prestone belt dressing before?harryhk 07-02-2011, 09:43 AM Dear All: Yesterday I found this little can in Walmart: prestone belt dressing. It seems to me that it does no harm but good. Though my car belts work fine now, I bought one for protection. But before I spray it on my pulley, I did a little online search and found out the feedback various a lot. Has anyone used this product before? Will it damage my car belt? Thanks a lot. danielsatur 07-02-2011, 10:12 AM Usually belt dressing is a temp fix for noise. Suspect - old belt, loose belt, pulleys, or a bad tensioner. BullShifter 07-02-2011, 10:17 PM I've never used belt dressing in all my years working on cars. The only time I can see using is if the belts are noisy. In that case it's time to replace and/or components that are bad such as alternators, a/c compressors, p/s pump, water pump, air pump, tensioner, idlers. Tony Silva 07-03-2011, 12:21 AM There is no need for belt dressing, if there was a need,.....your car would come with a can if it, just like your car comes with a spare tire. And a spare key and a warranty. In my opinion...if belt dressing "fixes" a belt, well...god damn it....it's time to change the belt. harryhk 07-03-2011, 10:51 AM Thanks a lot for the feedback. I used it yesterday, no magic happens. But 2 hours later, my check engine light was on. The error code is that primary oxygen sensor malfunction for open circuit. My car is a 1998 ex honda accord. It might be that my oxygen sensor is really broken. Or it could be I spray the "belt dressing" on some circuits which make them dysfunction. Anyway, really bad luck yesterday especially when I drive 50 miles with my check engine light on. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2013
