1997 Voyager wont go into park. AND I guess I screwed up!pede69 07-01-2011, 09:12 PM Hi Guys... My 1997 Voyager 3.0 (don't know which tranny) will not go into park. Starts fine in neutral, shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, shifts fine from 2nd to 3rd. Just will not go into park, running or not. Had a little whining noise every since I owned it, about 5 years. But always shifted smoothly and correctly. Now... the part about my screwing up. You know, I have rebuilt more chevy motiors (and even a 3.0) than I can remember, but I don't know jack about tranny's. On the subject of tranny fluid type. I really did not think that tranny fluid type was that important. I do remember sometime in the past putting in ATF +4 but of late have just been putting anything in it. Oh yeah. I have a tranny seal leak and just have not gotten around to replacing it. So please tell me, is tranny fluid really that crucial and did I possibly screw it up using other types? Remember, It has been leaking for quite some time and I may have put a lot of such types as Dextron III / Mercon in it. I need some help here guys, as I can not afford to put it in the shop after just being laid off. Thanks in advance for all you help, John b1lk1 07-01-2011, 10:32 PM Wrong fluid type will screw up everything except going into park. You're either looking at a broken park pin or shifter cable out of adjustment. Most likely the second. BUT, you're gonna definitely kill that tranny fast by not using ATF+4 all the time. Those transmissions are weak when they are in good condition just to make my point. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
