The engine "blew"? That's very unusual for the 3.8L. The resale market for used cars is pretty good right now, but not with a blown engine. You'd be lucky to get $1000. OTH if you like the van (assuming with the Limited pkg it has leather and all the goodies) you could rebuild the engine or find a replacement with lower miles(?), and build that value back up to $4-5,000 or possibly more depending on the condition of the rest of it. 115K is decent mileage for resale or keeping it. What about the tranny? Ever been rebuilt (yet)? Have you had any quotes?

Did you try the link I gave you? I found 10 in Minnesota; 3.8 with egr. $500 to $750 price range.

yes i did. thank you.. the milage is a little high though ... i think.. or are you saying they really aren't. Just my engine blew a rod at 125K miles... i don't want to get one that is 150K or 117K if it is just going to do that agiain... or do you think the guy before me who had it, didn't take care of it, or what? just can't afford to make another mistake on this van... thx for you help...

also some guys i know that are geer heads say i dont' ahve the EGR engine... so i have to get one with out the EGR... right?

If your van currently does NOT have an EGR valve you either need to get the same one or if you get one WITH an EGR valve you'll need to make a block off plate and just remove it and block the hole.

These engines are fairly strong, they are not the weak link. I understand your desire to not do the job again soon, but I would not shy away from a 80K-100K (miles) engine for my van if I needed to replace it as long as it had atleast a 90 day warranty. You'll know in that time frame if you got a good one. I worked at a few junkyards and it was amazing how many low mileage engines came out of high mileage cars if you know what I mean. Just be sure to find one with a good warranty and get it fully inspected by a good mechanic just to have a valid second opinion on it in writing.
