newer update: so i found this link from a grand prix site but it is about an 2003 impala..but it shows what i'm dealing with and some info about the part price etc., and a pic! so i guess i will contact the dealer in the morning. just wanted to update since i hate looking for solutions on the net but then people don't bother putting up the final outcome. just in case anyone else ever finds this info at all useful.

update: so i got under and it does appear it is leaking from the connector of the metal cooling hose where it goes into the nut that goes into the transmission (not the cooler side). i looked on the autozone/pepboys/oreilly for a part but came up empty. there is a quick connect on the transmission for those lines. it appears that you slide a plastic cap and you see a c-ring, pull that off and you can pull out the metal hose from the big nut/fitting going into the transmission. there is either a fitting on the end of that hose ( it did appear to have a yellow tip on it, but i was scared to pull it all the way out at this point with out more info (i still have to drive it until i get it fixed and i dont have the parts to fix it.) i did some more digging on the internet and after a lot of searching so far have just come up with the following pages. I guess i need the fitting that goes on the hose to keep it from leaking but i can't really find anything. maybe i will find something out from the mechanic tomorrow. i can't find a real solution so far..no parts etc. (i found the fitting part (nut) but not the part that goes on the end of the line that goes in the nut and held in place with the c-ring).

original post:

I have a 2005 Impala 3.8L with about 95k miles. it is leaking transmission fluid. I never noticed any on the ground because where i normally park it doesn't show up. but i noticed over time a couple of bad shifts..usually when coming to a quick stop and then taking off. the car had been parked for about 5 months and when i drove it there were a few harder shifts when turning onto side streets. So I checked the fluid and it looked low. I had no idea that it was so low. I went back into the store twice, ended up putting 3 quarts in and the parked overnight on concrete and saw the leak on the ground size of a dinner plate i guess the next day. The hard shifts seemed to disappear but it is leaking. Hope I didn't do too much damage.

How hard is it to fix the leak. I guess it is from the pan, (maybe the hoses to the cooler?). I don't have a jack i really trust to get under it at the moment. Have some jack stands. Was thinking about getting some ramps. Just debating. I have a $45 coupon off a service at a local garage. Any advice? Thanks!
