If you are a rally fan, warm your engine, as you can now download the demo version of Colin McRae Rally 3. The demo doesn't reflect the final product (95% complete) and lets you choose 3 tracks and only one Ford car. The game will be published by Codemasters on PC in June 2003.

I hope my pc is able to run it.

Fun part is, the game is out of date before it hits the shelves. Colin as we know drives a Citroen this year.
They're already making Colin McRae Rally 4 for the PS2 and XBOX with the Citroen.
And even when they manage to get the game all right this year, they might have to start all over again because it's not sure whether McRae can stay at Citroen: read here (http://www.worldrallynews.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1053498765,44957,) why.

Now, that was short.

Another good reason to upgrade my computer.

I'm not into PC-games as such. But if you like it, have fun then

Sure the game coders didn't base it on the customer Evo VII which is under-powered when compared to the factory Evo VII?

I got game yesterday and I was dissapointed. Graphics is very nice but other things not so much.
You can't tune your cars nicely like in CM2, and car goes on road like toy from one side to another. Tuning was much better in previous version. No multyplayer too. How I heard console version is better than PC version.

I read maaaaany complaints about this version.

That's why I decided not to get it. Reports are that it's much too arcade (for me at least, someone who is accustomed to GP2-3-4 and will accept nothing worse as far as simulation is concerned).

So can someone recommend a good rally simulation (with modern cars) that is newer that CMR2 and is 100% simulation and has narrower (hence more realistic) roads?

It is obvious Codemasters did a crappy job on this game. They ported the PS2 or XBOX version right to the PC version, hence the arcade gameplay.

Force Feedback is absolutely horrible and sound could be better. Graphics are nice though, they payed too much attention on it.

A game I still recommend is Mobil 1 Rallychampionship. It's old (1999) but very realistic. (It has lots of small roads).
The developer (sadly) doesn't exist anymore.

This comes from the booklet that comes with the game:

The latest version of Rally Championship simulates the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship, which is made up of six rallies spread across the British Isles. A total of 36 stages, featuring varied terrain and weather conditions, have been painstakingly recreated from detailed reference material including Ordenance Survey maps, filmed footage and photographs. Add to this over twenty of the worlds most exciting rally cars, accurately modelled in every detail, and support from some of the biggest names in rallying, and you have the most complete motor racing game available; the most immersive driving experience.

Agreed that CMR3.0 is too much arcadey...

But today I got a glimpse of what will be the next best thing CMR 4.0 !
This game will let you drive the championship mode with each car and rumours are it will feature a Group - B championship...
Let's hope Codemasters put equal as much effort as they did with DTM/toca/v8 Racedriver and we'll most probably have a fantastic game .

And Marco, I do agree that's a fine game, but for casual gaers not using some kind of analog steering device, It's quite hard to control the cars...

As for the best Driving game around , for me that crown still belongs to Gran Turismo III , with the next one in view ... GT4 Info (http://forum.granturismo.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=14) we might be up for some fireworks .. sporting 500 + cars, 50+ tracks, online-play ...

I can only dream ...

Have to agree with Marco about Rally Championship 99. Best rally sim I've ever seen (not that I've seen them all). Didn't know the developer had gone belly up, that's a real shame.

One downside for some people might be that it uses primarily FWD cars. Ther are turbo WRC cars available but their performance isn't as well rendered as the A5, 6 and 7 cars. Still, who needs a turbo when it is so much fun to throw a Megane or Saxo around!
