hey guys, recently a coolant hose popped, spewing out steam and saturating my underhood insulation...long story short, its ruined. my question is, does anyone know if anything will happen to the hood paint if i drive for a few days from work and back without the insulation? its only about a 15 minute drive.. thanks in advance

You shouldn't have any issues due to the fact that most of the insulation is for sound deadening rather than heat protection. The paint will be fine.

ohh if its only for sound then why even have it on haha. is it even worth buying a new one, then?

If you want to it will take some of the engine noise out of the car. I would buy a new one but if money is tight it wouldn't be a priority.

I wouldn't buy a "new" one. we live about 10 minutes away from Morads the best w-body recycler around. I am sure they will have one cheap.

we live a few minutes away from each other. Have you ever been to Morads? all they have are grand prix parts and w-body parts. I love that place.it is off of 140th and lorain avenue.

it probably will be a bit cheaper at pull a part though

Better heat transfer without one, but im sure someone will discredit anything i say, just my :2cents:

Why is that? Becuase you have no facts that support your statement?

tblake- i think hes assuming that, considering it is insulation, it will slow the transfer of heat from the engine bay to the hood, and consequently to the air. since steel is a very good conductor, without the insulation the heat will transfer to the air outside of the engine bay faster. i agree with him. haha sorry

Your going to notice the noise from the engine instead of the tail, the heat from the engine and sun will probably toast the clear coat too.
