Pulling driveshaft down ? Play in wheel to wheel movement

Hello AGAIN thank you so much in Advance ok 2003 CHEVY S-10 4 X 4 VORTEC V-6 4.3 MOTOR has 160,000 miles ran great up till here little vibration in the driveshaft since i got my last U-JOINTS done 20,000 ago it would only have a very very mild vibration at like 68-70 MPH but I would feel through the gas pedel ( I didnt really feel it through the GAS pedal ) Im JUST SAYING IT was faint......... very very mild vibration.......... I think my.......NO........ I KNOW MY PINON SEAL IS GONE ....so im going to drop the driveshaft losen the 11 mm bolts at the rear/driveshaft U JOINT the front where it looks like it just sticks into the TRANSFER CASE ?????? is that how I take the drive shaft down it just pulls out of the CASE ??????? and I noticed PLAY in the tires with the truck up and wheels spining freeley if i TURN THE ONE TIRE I DONT GET THE OTHER TIRE TO MOVE FOR AT LEAST 2 INCHES OF MOVEMENT THEN THE OPPSITE TIRE MOVES....???????? WEIRD it could be normal correct........thank you anthony

yes on drive shaft removal
if you can move the tire in/out 2'' before the other tire moves that is'nt normal.have someone move tire in/out while you look at steering linkage. should be fairly easy to see with that much movement.

Im sorry im not being clear...........in the back of the truck with the rear lifted 3 inchs off the ground if I go to the passenger side.of the truck and grab the tire and roll it foward like as if the truck was moving the opposite tire ingauges after I roll the passenger tire two inches I HOPE IM SAYING THIS CORRECTLY. Is that normal thank you......anthony

you must check the differential codes to see what you have ..with what your saying the differential is not a locking or limited slip type but an open diff...just one wheel provides traction. both rear wheels off the ground moving one wheel the other may move ....

with a locking diff or limited slip spinning the wheel off the ground will lock up after a few rotations locking type, the limited slip type you would need 50 ft lbs of torque to get the wheel to rotate...


on the drive shaft remove the rear drive shaft U joint support brackets ..mark drive shaft to put back as removed..tape the end caps so you don't mess up the needle bearings.

HOW? please How do I tell what SIZE RING GEAR I have Chiltons only says Its a 7.6" or a 8.6" RING GEAR how do I find out ? I know the 7.6" takes 3.6 Pints of 80W-90 GEAR OIL and the 8.6" takes 4.0 Pints ...........I guess it a VIN code or something I still dont know what I have a ........

you never use the capacity to fill these boxes...you fill to about 1/2 inch below the fill hole...drive vehicle a little bit then recheck.

make sure on a level surface. these gear oils expand when heated so overfilling can cause some to leak out.
