Headlight ground

I had an intermittent bulb failure on my 2006 Kia Sorento I had 12 volt to the bulb but couldn't locate a ground and the bulb would only light in one spot. I pulled the cap on the parking light bulb and found a ground wire attached to the bracket for the spring which holds the bulb in place. I made a ground wire and put it under the screw for the bracket I put the other end under the screw for the headlight bracket. As I found a terminal for attaching a ground after I was finished and one stripped screw which I replaced with a slightly larger screw. I think the spring was replaced and the ground was pitched. I shook the unit trying to find it but couldn't.
The unit now works fine but has anyone replaced a bulb and noticed a ground attached to the headlight spring bracket? I used a test light hooked on to the positive looking for a ground. For a computer use a logic probe listed as computer safe I have one but was in a hurry.
