Hobby Design DBS wheels vs Tamiya tyres

Got myself some HD wheels "for Tamiya DBS" because they are the style used on the "Black Carbon" edition I plan to finish mine as. Trouble is, the Tamiya tyres don't fit... they are too big, by enough to make them unfixable to the rims.

Do HD do their own tyres that do fit? Surely if you're making parts advertised as being for a specific kit, you should make sure that they fit?

So, what do I do? I guess I can either wrap the rims with plastic card, to bulk them out, or take a slice out of the tyre to reduce the diameter slightly and try to hide it at the contact point. The irritating thing is that the rims are already painted, so bulking them out will require reworking...

Anyone else had this trouble? Any clever fixes that will just make it go away?

I have to say, I've found this with several resin accessory and conversion kits on aircraft in the past - the makers just don't allow enough for shrinkage of the resin as it cures...

Grrrr...

bestest,
M.

same problem here with the HD wheels not fitting the kit tires. It's frustrating. If you're going to make accessories, then make them fit the kit parts! Sorry, no solution - maybe try different tires?

HD began making tires recently. Check its website. I can't comment on the quality as I have not seen them in person. Messing with the diameter of the rims would be the last thing I'd try. Good luck.

If you think tires not fitting is bad, what about the fact that the wheels have the wrong mounting system for Tamiya? I just. Don't. Get. Hobby Design :banghead:

Looking at photos online of the H.D. tires made me pass (check HLJ.com). I found that the Aoshima 19" tires fit the 19" BBS wheels I bought perfectly. So I was pretty happy about that although now I have a set of GTC01's without tires. I also did not find much to like about their mounting scheme. Which is to say there isn't one. I'm sure I can sort it out though.

Here are the pics I promised. I think these tires look great and stretch out well. I cant believe HD got something right :)

I must say, the real-life examples look a lot better than the images I saw online. Maybe those were prototypes or something?

Those look much better than the ones I got from HD. Maybe I just got a bad set because I was ready to not order any of them again.

I think You got first tyres from HD:
HD03-0074 1/24 YOKOHAMA ADVAN A048 Tire or
HD03-0075 YOKOHAMA ADVAN AD08 Tire or
HD03-0076 YOKOHAMA ADVAN Neova Tire or
HD03-0077 YOKOHAMA ADVAN S.drive Tire.
I haven't seeen it by myself, but some people says, that it has bad quality.
All newer tyres from HD have good quality, as it possible for non-factory production. IMHO.

P.S. Thread about HD tyres, from russian modelling forume
