i have a 2000 gmc jimmy 4x4 after i drive it and then shut it off it sounds like a popping noise from my fuel tank after a few min of sitting

like the sound a small 2 gallon metal gas can sounds like during summer when its trying to expand

this sound has been ongoing for a few years and i did have a fuel pump put in a few months ago and it didnt change anything (that wasnt the reason i had a fuel pump done)
