89 Lebaron 2.5 gas mileage mystery

Having a problem with the gas mileage on my 89 Lebron 2.5 (non turbo).
The car gives me great gas mileage on short to mid length trips. I can usually get between 20/29 MPG on any trip less than 20 to 30 miles long so if I drive it locally I can enjoy the car with good mileage. However if I drive the car for more than say half an hour on the highway gas mileage suddenly decreases dramatically to say 10/16,
and stays that way until I park it and let it cool down.
Any thoughts? This mystery is driving me crazy.

little old. but April was few months ago... Check your oxygen sensors. I dont know if the lebarons have one or two. I've never checked. IF you replace it go with a OE Bosch
